Week 5 is in the bag, and another player is down. This time it’s LeGarrette Blount going down with a knee injury. For those suffering a few bad picks, the parity of fantasy football comes in the form of weekly waiver pick ups reminding us all that the tide can always change from week to week. Let’s look at the waivers for this week.
Jackie Battle – An apparent feature back has emerged from the slums of the Chiefs backfield. Jackie Battle, another player who a coach alluded to giving an increased workload to prior to the game (see Ryan Torain), took 19 carries for 119 yards. He’s is a must add even though Todd Hailey has been reluctant to declare Battle the rue feature back. Nevertheless, he should be rostered in all formats. Available in 89% of leagues.
Tim Tebow – In an eerily similar way to last season, Tim Tebow came in for a inept Bronco offense and breathed life into the team. John Fox has announced Tebow as the starter, and the team is now his. With a very Vick-like presence in the offense, Tebow should help kick start a sputtering offense in Denver. He is a must add right now going into the Bronco’s BYE week. Available in 89% of leagues.
Steve Breaston – Finally, after 4 weeks Breaston showed signs of life consistently in the Chiefs offense. The team will go into their BYE week, but Breaston may be worth rostering during that time if you can spare the spot on your bench. Available in 84% of leagues.
Delone Carter/Donald Brown – With Joseph Addai went down with a hamstring injury this week, leaving Carter and Brown splitting carries. Brown was the more effective runner, while Carter got more touches and the goal line carries. It’s a tough call and may be a situation to avoid unless your desperate for a running back. With Addai looking to miss 2-3 weeks it’s a situation to monitor. Available in 86% / 98% of leagues.
Alex Smith – I’ve never been an advocate for Alex Smith, but his past 2 weeks have been enough to warrant consideration as a BYE week filler. The 49ers offense is running well under first year head coach Jim Harbaugh, but beware of the match up with the Lions. Available in 85% of leagues.
Earnest Graham – With LeGarrette Blount suffering a knee injury Sunday Graham is set to be the prime benefactor against the Saints and for whatever the duration that Blount is out for. Blount owners should view Graham as a must add right now and anyone in need of a back up could do worse depending on how your waivers, but be aware that Kregg Lumpkin will be thrown into the mix as well. Available in 82% of leagues currently.
Greg Little – The Browns have put Greg Little back into the starting line up and could be very productive given with an increased role in the offense. Little has great run after the catch abilities that serve well in the Browns short pass offense. Available in 92% of leagues currently.
