Here’s this week’s What It Means:
1) What a day for Ben Crane. Seven down with 11 to play, he probably thought he was out of it but he fought back, and birdieing his way into a playoff with Webb Simpson. Crane then went on to win the McGladrey Classic when Simpson missed a 3 foot par putt on the second playoff hole. Good for him.
2) In the larger sense, Simpson did exactly what he needed to do, however. He finished second, and will take a commanding lead in the money race into Disney next week. Luke Donald will need to win or finish second to have any chance to grab the money title away from Simpson. If Simpson wins the PGA Tour money title, he gets a five year exemption.
3) Donald is trying to become the first player in history to be a member of both the PGA and European Tours and win both money titles in the same year. Simpson today made it a very hard task for Luke this week. But hey, it’s Disney…magic happens, right?
