Week six’s lost isn’t as painful as week 3’s or 4’s defeats…it has now become part of their game. The Panthers D got the game off to a start. They were able to limit the Falcons first play drive and force them to punt the ball. The offense’s opening drive of the game began with a holding penalty and three points. Newton led the offense down the field but was unable to convert a Red-Zone 3rd down for the touchdown. The number of penalties the Panthers continues to acquire each game is mind numbing as well as the horrible tackling the Defense continues to display. 6 plays-6 penalties in the 1st quarter alone! Seriously?-How can a team be successful at a penalty rate like this? Both rookies and veteran Defensive players put the Falcons in perfect scoring position on the one yard line and the result…a Michael Turner rushing touchdown. **Great for my Fantasy Team-not so much for my Panthers.
The Panthers Offense open the 2nd quarter doing some good and but mostly bad. Props to Legedu Naanee for making the HUGE 3rd down conversion that set up the massive 1st down run follow-up by Jonathan Stewart one yard line! Then Stewart power shovels himself into the end-zone for his 1st TD of the season!!! Panthers (offense) are looking good early in the 2nd quarter. The Panthers Defense on the other have did not impress at any point during the 1st half of the game. Coupled with Chris Gamble’s costly & uncharacteristic mistakes resulted in the Falcons regaining the lead. Plenty of highs and lows for football fans! Later in the 2nd quarter LaFell made a GREAT 3rd down catch to keep the play drive moving and help the Panthers stay alive. Late in the quarter with 68 Panther yards and nine plays the Falcons Defense create a HUGE turnover in the End-Zone that set them up to maintain the lead heading into Half-Time.
In the 3rd quarter,Cam continued to add to his personal best by scoring the only 3rd quarter touchdown to lead the Falcons by three. Michael Turner was a MAMMOTH size problem for the Panthers D the entire game!!! It was like watching one man single- handedly undo an entire team. Panthers Defense started the 4th quarter with a goal line stance and Falcons tie the game with a 24 yard field goal. Atlanta applied more pressure on Newton and forced the Panthers to punt early, giving the Falcons regain possession of the ball and an opportunity to take the lead. The Falcons no-huddle offense proved to be a problem for the Panthers all game. Halfway through the 4th Math Ryan punches the ball in from the one-yard line to take the lead. The defense allowed the Falcons to score WAY too many points, coupled with Newton’s late 4th quarter pick on a screen, not how you win games. Cory Peters made the Panthers look like fools on the play and Michael Turner put the game out of reach with his 2nd TD of the day. Falcons win 31-17 and he and his team walk away Victorious.
What more can be said about the Panther?
Two Three interceptions forced by the Falcons is what made the difference in 14 points given to the Atlanta by Carolina. Uptown Charlotte doesn’t have a hero’s welcome for the Panthers return and every week a little football light is dimming. The Redskins come to town next Sunday with victory on the brain and the will hard to beat if the Panthers continue to cost themselves and fans big games.
