So we come to the conclusion of Sunday’s NFL games and we can definitely pull out the winners from this weekend and the losers. Aside from the fantasy world, I can definitely say that I was a big winner! Not only did I win in ALL THREE of my fantasy leagues, but I also had an amazing Sunday. We all know that God created the 7th day (Sunday) as a day of rest, but he didn’t know when he created the wonderful sport of football that he would change the purpose of the 7th day for millions of sports fans. If I were to guess, I would have to say that out of all the people in the United States, the amount of people that follow the NFL and play Fantasy Football matches the amount of people that attend church. Sad! I know, but what can you do?
My Sunday consisted of me doing both, which I am very proud of. After attending church, I rushed (total understatement! I pretty much bolted) to my friend’s bar/grill, Dupage Inn and Grill. I arrive roughly around 12 PM central time, just in time for the first wave of games to start. I ordered my usual, their famous, bacon cheeseburger with barbeque sauce and a side of french fries. This routine is my tradition for a successful day of rest complete with the Redzone package that covers all the action packed games. Anyways, lets move onto the winners and losers of Sunday’s match ups shall we?
I can’t say enough about this guy. I think I might even have a man-crush on him. As I put in my “Who I love and Who I Hate” article, Bradshaw was going to be a player that I love, and he didn’t disappoint. Carrying the ball for a career high 26 times for 104 yards and adding in 2 catches for 26 yards and 3 touchdowns made him the best fantasy player of the day. With Jacobs continuing to stay on the sideline with a sprained MCL, Bradshaw will be a top 10 running back the rest of the way and should be in your lineup every week.
Mr. Ridiculous turned in another amazing performance. He didn’t only use his return skills to put him on the fantasy scoreboard, but he did it as a receiver as well. Along with his Kickoff return TD, he caught 5 balls for 91 yards and a TD. Hester put together a great all-around performance, and if Cutler is given the time in the pocket that he was given last night, Hester should be a good option going forward in all fantasy league formats.
Finally coming out of a little slump, Freeman threw for a season high 303 yards and 2 TD’s while getting sacked 0 times. Not only is he a winner with his fantasy day, but with his performance, he elevated the Buccaneers to 1st place in their division over the New Orleans Saints.
Who thought that Frank Gore would stay in a slump all year? Well think again! Frank Gore notched his 3rd straight 100 yard game by carrying the ball 15 times for 141 yards and a TD. San Francisco is a run oriented team and Gore put the team on his back and got the win against the ex-undefeated Lions. This put the niners to a 5-1 record, which points to them winning the NFC West and getting into the playoffs. For those of you who didn’t catch the end of the game, the coaches of each team got into a scuffle, here’s the video! Lions vs Niners fight
Finally there was a game that Cutler wasn’t running for his life. Getting sacked only once, Cutler had all the time in the world to throw the ball. Throwing for 21/31 passes for 267 and 2 TD’s, he came away with his highest QB rating of the season with 115.9. He had an early hookup for a TD with Devin Hester which set the tempo for the game. When Cutler has time in the pocket, he is a very effective passer. The question is, will the bears offensive line hold up the rest of the season? Gabe Carimi, the Bear’s first round pick, will be coming back from injury soon which should help their offensive line struggles.
Even though he didn’t look like a loser on the stat sheet, (21/30 244 yards, 2 TD 2 INT) he made 2 critical errors in the game that gave the Giants the win. He threw 2 INT that were intended passes for Stevie Johnson, who was in single coverage. Both of those Interceptions turned into points for the Giants. Fitzpatrick had multiple chances in the game to give the Bills the lead and possibly the win, but those interceptions came back to haunt him.
No “Sexy Rexy” for him this Sunday. Rex threw 4 INTs, he also threw himself out of the game. Grossman was benched for John Beck after his miserable day. He came away with negative fantasy points, which I’m pretty sure isn’t a good thing. Grossman has played sloppy this whole season, so even if he starts next week, he will have to show that he is worth being a starting QB. Otherwise, we will have to say hello to Mr. John Beck, who came in and threw for 117 yards and scored on a short touchdown run.
Cam Newton finally came down to Earth this season. Personally, I thought that he was going to have another great day against the Falcons, but it turned out to be the opposite. He threw for 237 yards and 3 picks with 0 TDs. His only fantasy plus was his 50 yards rushing and TD score. The one good thing we can get out of his performance this week is that even if he isn’t having a great throwing day, he is still a killer running the ball. Keep starting him if you have him on your team, as this is only a small setback for the beastly panther.
Washington Redskins Running Game
Going against one of the worst rush defenses in the league this season, Ryan Torrain and Roy Helu were complete Duds. Rushing for a combined total of 28 yards between the running backs, the Redskin running game was a complete disaster. Give credit to the Eagles defense though, they finally came to play this season. But given that this was a big NFC East rival game, the Redskins should have came out with a better game plan for their running backs.
3 receptions 110 yards 2 TDs, 6 receptions 98 yards, 8 receptions 161 yards 1 TD. These are Victor Cruz’s stats for the 3 games prior to Sunday. His Sunday’s stats….2 receptions for 12 yards. We could give Cruz the benefit of the doubt and say that it was the Bradshaw show on Sunday, but Eli still threw for a decent amount in the game. Manningham and Nicks outperformed Cruz hands down. Cruz had 2 drops in the game which could have brought his total yardage up about 35 more yards. Nevertheless, Cruz had a bad outing against a user friendly secondary. Hopefully he can bounce back week 8 against the Dolphins, not because I’m a Giants fan, but because I need him for my fantasy team!
Well those are my winners and losers for Sunday’s performances. Tonight, MNF presents a rivalry game between the Jets and the Dolphins. I’m excited to see how Brandon Marshall will do after his rant about getting kicked out in the first half. He will be vacationing on Revis Island though, so I hope he brought something to do because he won’t be catching many balls tonight. On the other side, I want to see Shonne Greene come out of his slump and pound the ball against the Dolphins. I predict that he will have a preeminent performance tonight and will lead the Jets to victory.
