With Rex Grossman being pulled from the Eagles game late in the 3rd quarter after throwing 4 interceptions, is this a sign that he’s done for the season, like Donovan McNabb last year? John Beck did play well, but it was 1 quarter. Grossman has played good quarters. So who should start? No matter who starts, it’s a gamble for Shanahan and extremely aggravating for fans because it seems every 1-2 seasons we’re in the same situation.
As a quarterback, Rex Grossman is sitting at second to last place at #32 in QB ranks (1 spot up from Kerry Collins). He has 6 TDs, 9 INT, 1,132 YDS and is rated 66.5 for playing 4.75 games. If you take out the “single” bad game for Grossman, he has 5 interceptions in 4 games. Basically, he’s guaranteed to throw at least one when he’s starting and maybe a single TD. You’ll never win with those odds.
The Redskins players, however, are on his side. WR Santana Moss spoke up after the Eagles’ loss in his defense. “No question,” Moss said. “It’s not even something that should be asked. When it comes down to playing we know that you can’t just give up on somebody because they had a bad outing.”
Has he had one bad outing though? If Shanahan continues with Grossman, he either continues the downward spiral, he plays the same, or he gets better. There are 11 games remaining in a tight race in the NFC East. Still time, but not for major screw ups.
He’s not seen action in a regular season game since 2007. His performance during the preseason was enough for Mike Shanahan to choose Rex Grossman as the starter. He is 1 year younger than Rex, but that’s not much.
He was thrown into a losing game in the 4th quarter and did okay but did not get the win (although that cannot be put on him as there was a chance at getting the ball back). He ran for a first down himself, which I don’t recall Grossman ever doing, and when there was no one to throw to in the end zone, he ran it in himself. Maybe that’s just the boldness of having a QB thrown in to replace a benched QB or is this something that Shanahan should focus on? Look at Vince Young for the Eagles. He was put in to replace Michael Vick, not knowing how long he’d be in for, and he threw an interception within 2 passes.
Picking Beck is also a gamble as this 1 quarter could be a fluke but he could also improve, but do we have enough time?
I would hate to be in the position of choosing but choose he (Shanahan) must and now. With the defense playing the way they have, and if the ground game gets back, this team has potential. They just need a solid and consistent “okay” QB.
Who would you pick?

I lived in Greene County Virginia for about 5 years of my childhood. This span of time was enough to imprint the love of the Washington Redskins (and hate of the Dallas Cowboys) into my life forever, even though I am Canadian and still live in Canada. I am in no way an expert on sports, football, or even the Redskins, but I do absolutely adore them, their fans and their home state(s). My favourite Redskin is and will always be Darrell Green (not because we share the same last name lol). I've adored Chris Cooley since he joined the team from the 2004 draft and love London Fletcher. Hail to the Redskins! See you October 30th in my home town of Toronto.
