Cowboys Run Roughshod Over Rams

[1]Nursing a two game losing streak and their record below .500 (2-3) the Dallas Cowboys were a team in search of its identity.  Victims of inconsistent play that produced several close finishes the “boys” were a team in need of a game to boost their collective confidence. Apparently the football gods are on their side because the St. Louis Rams arrived at Cowboys Stadium just in time.

With their 34-7 win over the Rams Sunday Dallas ended a streak of 11 games that were decided by four points or less. With the loss the Rams fell to 0-6 and Dallas improved to 3-3. [2]

With starting QB Sam Bradford out with a high ankle sprain the Rams didn’t put up much of a fight. After Dallas took an early 14-0 lead in the second quarter the Rams scored their only TD on a 6 yard run by Steven Jackson to make the score 14-7 Dallas.

Rams backup QB A.J. Feely did his best substituting for Bradford but his 196 yards on 20 completions was far from enough. Even with the addition of newcomer Brandon Lloyd, who caught six passes for 74 yards in his debut with the team the Rams were simply unable to sustain much on offense.  Jackson rushed for 70 yards on 18 carries against the league’s top ranked rushing defense.

Dallas Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray rushed for a franchise record 253 yards against the Rams Sunday

Dallas QB Tony Romo had an average game completing 14 of 24 passes for only 166 yards.  But Romo really didn’t need to do much on Sunday because rookie running back Demarco Murray apparently had things under control.  Murray set a franchise record with 253 yards on the day surpassing Emmit Smith’s previous total of  237. On Murray’s first carry of the game, 91 yards, was the second longest run from scrimmage in franchise history (Tony Dorsett  with 99 yards.)  The 253 yards was also a record for a Rams’ opponent.

The Rams have only two more chances to finish the 2011 season with a winning record something St. Louis  fans expected after an 8-8 season last year.  They return home next week to face the 5-2 New Orleans Saints at the Edward Jones Dome.

St. Louis teams went 0-2 in Texas Sunday as the Cardinals lost to the Rangers in game four of the World Series 4-0.
