NC State Vs. Florida State, More Critical Than You Think

Posted By Corey Rioux On Oct 27 2011 @ 7:00 am In Florida State | 3 Comments

As I write my first column, I would like to take some brief time to introduce myself. I’m  a kid born and raised in New England, but now reside on the western coast of the sunshine state. Even though I may come from New England I am a die-hard Cleveland Browns fan. Besides the Seminoles I will also be writing for the Browns with my first column up by Saturday. Yet living near Boston I became a huge Red Sox and Celtics fans (don’t remind me about the lockout or the beer). I hope to keep you interested throughout the time I write for Pro Sports Blogging and thank you for your interest. Also you can follow me at Twitter @C_Rioux23.

The Season That Wasn’t

This was supposed to be the comeback season of the Florida State Seminoles, led by 2nd year coach Jimbo Fisher. With a Preseason rank of #5 and the best recruiting class of the latest offseason. Yet, it already looks like the Miami Heat of the 2010-11 NBA season with a terrible start to a hyped season. Yes, their schedule may not have been the easiest, facing previously ranked #1, The Sooners of Oklahoma and the still unbeaten Clemson Tigers. Don’t remind me of the Wake Forest game, it was like those little Tigers of Kicking and Screaming (Not that Wake Forest has Mike Ditka, but you get the point). After falling to a dreadful 2-3 start, the Seminoles have rebounded scoring 41 points in two straight games and only allowing 16 points in both those games. This week deems to be the deciding factor in the Seminoles season.

Game Preview

The truth (at least in your mind) can be misleading. FSU looks better on paper and hell they sound better coming out of your mouth than the Wolfpack. The Noles’ do it all (besides win important games), they can pass the football, they can score the football, but they cannot run the football. Yeah, I’m talking to you Devonta Freeman.

On the other side of the field, NC State is coming off a win against a talented inter-conference, Virginia Cavaliers team. QB Glennon threw three touchdown passes in the victory, and is having a great season under center with 19 passing touchdowns.

Now to the part where this game is more critical than you think. I believe we can count the Wolfpack already out of the hunt for any type of ACC title with having to played the 5th ranked Tigers of Clemson in the next coming weeks. Yet, the Noles’ could win out and and Clemson could drop two games, therefore leading to a division co-championship between the two teams. Yet, Clemson would head to Charlotte since they ousted the Seminoles in week 4.

If EJ Manuel can ease in passes to his core of wide-outs we could be looking at a one sided game, but things don’t always happen they way we want them to.

So can Jimbo and the Noles’ continue their quest for a legendary comeback? I’ll guess we’ll find out.
