For the second week in the row the New Orleans Saints (5-2) will take on another winless team this season. The St. Louis Rams’ defense is very weak, and they are probably not ready for what will happen this Sunday. The Saints crushed the Colts last Sunday with a score of 62-7. In that score the Saints scored more than the Rams have scored this whole season.
The Rams (0-6) were without their quarterback Sam Bradford last game, and may be without him again this one. Saints’ head coach Sean Payton was in the booth last week due to a leg injury that happen in the Tampa Bay game. This allowed the Saints’ offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael Jr. a chance to call plays for the first time.
The Saints definitely needed that win last week because they felt as if they were not going to make it without their coach being on the sideline. Payton is known for being involved with his players on the sideline, and after that huge win they realized they can do it.
Saints’ quarterback Drew Brees completed 31 of 35 passes for 325 yards and five touchdowns. Late in the end of the third quarter Chase Daniel replaced Brees. The Saints scored two more touchdowns in the fourth, and ended the game with team record of 36 first downs.
Trying to keep up with the Saints will definitely be hard due to the fact that the Rams are the last in the league with a total of 56 points overall. St. Louis is also the 31st in scoring defense just a little above the Colts. Without their quarterback will only make things worse.
The St. Louis Rams’ defense will have to try to stop Brees and his team. Brees is the NFL leader right now with 2,477 passing yards, and he is second with 18 touchdowns. Rookie Mark Ingram ran for 91 yards on 18 carries against the Colts, and was injured in the fourth quarter. He hurt his heel, and the x-ray came back negative.
Payton has yet to decide if he will call plays for the Saints this week, but it might not back a difference. The Saints beat the Rams 31-13 last season, and they may just do it again.
