I remember Jerry DiPoto, the pitcher. Nothing special, more of a journeyman. Now I’ll care about what he does on a daily basis since he is the new Angels General Manager. His new job will be tougher than any situation he ever faced as a player.
He comes with a great resume in scouting. We all know about the players he took from the Angels in the Dan Haren deal, let’s just hope he can do that same type of stuff for the Halos. I’ve read that he is great with agents and other player reps, which is good to hear. My big question, like others, is how will he deal with Mike Scioscia?
I don’t care about what Angels beat writer Lyle Spencer says, Jeff Mathis is not an every day catcher. If Mathis is back behind the dish on opening day 2012, than I know who is running the show. Mathis is up for arbitration again, and he’ll no doubt ask for a raise, which makes him even more expendable. I do agree with Spencer that Mathis needs a change of scenery.
Dipoto is stuck with Vernon Wells. I hold out hope that Wells rebounds from last season pathetic performance. You know what I really wish? I wish Wells would consider restructuring his contract to help free up more money, for what will be a very important offseason for the Halos. I would hold my breathe, but right now, I don’t like the color blue.
I do like that the Angels went outside of the organization to fill the GM position. Dipoto was a good, solid choice, but only time will tell how he fares. My money is on him to do well.

O'kay I'll talk about myself a little. I've been working in the television/radio industry for over 21 years. I started at 2 so I am just a tad over 21 (That is a joke). My career has taken me around and and even out of the United States. Right now I call Vegas home, but I just never know where life will take me next. Until 2002 my irrational love for the California/Anaheim/LAA had taken me down some very dark roads, but with Arte Moreno in charge I finally saw the a light at the end of the road. I really love most every sports and having as much fun as possible.
