Sack Happy Bills Dismantle Washington

Buffalo is back atop the AFC East with their 23-0 win against Washington combined with New England’s 25-17 loss against Pittsburgh. It was their first regular season win in Toronto since they started the series in 2008. The attendance was up about 1500 from last year, but well short of a sell out. This Toronto series may have given the organization a lot of money, but I am sure glad there is only one year left. Coach Gailey said the crowd really helped out a few times with the noise causing Washington to call a few times out, but jokingly suggested not to start the wave when they are trying to continue a drive on 3rd and 1.  An interesting note is that the hotel rooms facing the field in the Rogers Center were blocked off my banners preventing fans to watch the game from the comfort of their room. With that said… I will not be attending next year.

It’s hard to pinpoint which was more impressive; 9 sacks, the shutout, Fred Jackson’s 194 all purpose yards, Marcell Dareus’ vertical or Ryan Fitzpatrick ability to shrug off that huge hit from London Fletcher? They answer is simple, they all were, and that’s what wins games. This was a team win and although the Bills defense ranks among the worse in the NFL statistically, they were the best this Sunday allowing a mere 178 yards offense which included only 26 yards rushing. This game will give this defense a lot of confidence going into next weeks game against AFC East rival New York Jets.

Worth every penny! Proving that his new 6 year, 59 million dollar contract, Ryan Fitzpatrick  finished the day 21/27 for 262 yards, 2 touchdown showing fans and Bills management he is worth the deal. We all held our collective breath at the end of the first half when Fitzpatrick was hit hard in the ribs by ex-Bills London Fletcher and was down for a few minutes. “It was a bit of concern,” said Chris Kelsay. “I think everybody in the locker room would say that. If they don’t they’re lying. He’s played spectacular for us this season. He’s not the only motor behind that offense for us, but anytime you have the leader of your offense go down like that it’s obviously a concern.”

Should George Wilson be considered as one of the defensive players of the year? Well, as a strong safety he is 3rd in the league with 66 tackles and 2nd in interception. He is slowly becoming the leader of their defense and if he keeps up his hard work, it might pay dividends at the end of the year.

Notes from the game:

  • Hey Toronto… do something with your field scoreboard, it almost caused me to have a seizure
  • In 24 seasons, Washington coach Mike Shanahan has never been shut out.. streak OVER!
  • I predicted a 20 point win by Buffalo.. pretty close
  • Scott Chandler is good
  • Marcell Dareus is scary good
  • Watch out Thigpen! [2]
  • Buffalo defense was Deion Sanders number one on his Primtime Player list this week
