Week 8 is in the bag and the realm of fantasy football is beginning to evolve and clear favorites in individual leagues should be emerging. As the season continues the waivers start to grow shallow, so here are few names to consider who are left in the pot.
Matt Cassel – The Chiefs offense is on an upswing and even if it doesn’t last Cassel gets the Dolphins, the Broncos, and the Patriot in the next 3 games, each of which are having problems defending the pass. Available in 61% of leagues currently.
Jonathan Baldwin – After an ugly start to the season where Baldwin got into a fight with fellow teammate Thomas Jones, Baldwin broke out with an 82 yard game complimented with a score. He is talented enough to overtake Steve Breaston, but for now remains in 3 wide sets only. Available in 90% of leagues currently.
Javon Ringer – The CJ2K that we’ve known from the last few seasons is currently a shell of himself, and it has been highlighted when Javon Ringer has come in and ran well behind a line that Johnson can’t seem to get going behind. This has the look of a committee, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Titans hold Johnson out with an “injury” at some point. Ringer is a must own for Johnson owners right now. Available in 87% of leagues.
Chris Ogbonnaya – Montario Hardesty has a torn calf, and though Peyton Hillis should be scheduled for a return in week 9, he was also scheduled for a return in week 8. Ogbonnaya won’t likely carry you to a fantasy championship, but is worth an add in the event that Hillis has another set back this week and you’re in need at the RB position. Available in 95% of leagues.
Ben Obamanu – Obamanu drew the start over Big Mike Williams in Seattle and has once again become fantasy relevant. He hauled in 4 catches for 107 yards. He is probably a WR3/4 at best in an up and down passing attack in Seattle, but he is worth a look if your thin at the position. He could also be balanced out by Doug Baldwin. Available in 99% of leagues currently.
Brent Celek – Celek had a breakout game against, you guessed it the Cowboys secondary. He almost doubled his total in yard for the year, and the back to back touchdown performance is encouraging. However, he has only averaged 19 yards a game through the year being all but completely ignored by Michael Vick. He should be added for depth with the hope of upside if he continues to be involved in the offense like he has over the past 2 weeks. Available in 80% of leagues currently.
