A Win Means Everything

Posted By Corey Rioux On Nov 3 2011 @ 7:00 am In Florida State | No Comments

This week could be the biggest week of the Seminole’s season, and it comes in prime-time.

Jimbo Fisher and his squad face a 2-6, but scary Boston College Eagles team. A win by Florida State forces Clemson to beat Wake Forest next Saturday to win the ACC Coastal division. As a Noles fan I can only hope the Demon Deacons can do exactly what they did Florida State to Clemson,  beating them in an important game. The Deacons play spoiler on November 12th, but then have to lose to Maryland the following week. A lot of things have to take place for a comeback, but football takes crazy twist and turns sometimes, hopefully the 2011 ACC for now.

Game Preview

Florida State is coming off a great win against North Carolina State in a 34-0 blowout. They looked solid on both sides of the ball getting in the endzone 4 times and forcing 3 turnovers (2 INT, 1 Fumble). FSU looks to win their 4th straight game this week in the great city of Boston (don’t argue). EJ Manuel has finally hit consistency this year, playing well in the winning streak, ultimately deciding the outcome of each game. The X-Factor going into this game is: Devonte Freeman. Can he  break out and rush for the century mark the third time this year?.  He might have scored last week, but it’s been a disappointing year on the ground only rushing for 305 yards on 58 attempts. His average might be above 5 yards which is remarkable, but I haven’t seen the kind of attack I was hoping for when the season started. Some may disagree with what I say, but an opinion is an opinion.

Florida State has an extraordinary and talented receiving core that catches the ball with ease out of the hands of Manuel. Rodney Smith leads the team in receptions (27) and yards (468), but not TDs (3) that title goes to Rashad Greene who has a total of 6 receptions for touchdowns on the year.

Boston College is coming off a win against the Terrapins of Maryland, 28-17. The Eagles may be 2-6, but they play well at home even being 1-3 they have been within 1 score in those 3 losses. The two-headed monster of Rolandan Finch and Andre Williams on the ground have combined for 7 TDs and 914 yards on 188 attempts averaging close to 5 yards a carry. Their QB play may be lacking this year as Chase Rettig hasn’t been the answer (no one will replace what Matt Ryan brought to that team) throwing for about 1400 yards on an average 51% completion percentage. When your touchdowns match your INTs, it’s usually not a good sign and it doesn’t result in wins, which has been exactly the thing this year for the Eagles out of Massachusetts.

This Thursday decides the Seminoles season, and a win brings a breath of relief for the time being. We can’t count on a win, I’m not that kind of person, but we can believe in the glory of sports.

A win means everything, and a loss by the Tigers means so much more.
