In State Rivalry Sets Stage for ACC

The 6-3 (4-2) Seminoles of Florida State stay at home this week to face the Miami Hurricanes of Coral Gables, Miami. This week decides the Seminoles outcome in the Atlantic division of the ACC Conference, by 3:30 ET before kickoff Jimbo Fisher and the Nole’s will know if a BCS bowl is still a possibility or shambled. Clemson goes against conference foe, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in a game that has ACC title implications. The possibility of a Clemson loss is high as they face a talented club out of Winston-Salem, NC that upset FSU in early October. Last week the Nole’s defeated the Boston College Eagles 38-7, in a game that doesn’t have much to talk about except that Florida State became bowl eligible for the 30th consecutive year.
Florida State is coming off 4 straight wins as they face the grief-stricken Jacory Harris led Hurricanes. The Hurricanes have had a quiet season since the Nevin Shapiro stories dwindled down into forgotten news. Right now they are a solid 5-4 (3-3) beating Ohio State, VA Tech, and Georgia Tech. All in all a good season that has been overcast by scandals, yachts, strippers, and parties. Yet, there is still a talented football team that resides in Coral Gables and no one should take them lightly.
Last week Devonte Freeman of the Seminoles finally broke through scoring twice on the ground, but once again held under 100 yards with only 62 yards on 12 attempts. Even though his average may be astounding, this team thrives behind the passing game, but still effectively running the ball in the redzone.
The Hurricanes stand behind their starting RB Lamar Miller who has been putting the team on his back this season rushing for 1016 yards getting into the endzone 8 times. Miller is also averaging just about 6 yards a carry, one of the best averages per rush in Division I this year. Jacory Harris is a mediocre QB who has been put on a pedestal when quite frankly he makes way too many mistakes throwing into coverage quite often. The media may have fallen for Harris in his first 2 seasons, but he has since dwindled down in the national spotlight.
ACC Final Outlook
The ACC Atlantic is going to come down to the final weeks as the top spot is up for grabs depending on how this week plays out. Let’s say Wake Forest hands the Tigers their second straight loss then this allows the Seminoles to tie Clemson at 5-2 in the Atlantic division. Though Clemson holds the tie-breaker on the Noles’, this puts extreme pressure on the 9th team in the country to beat the Wolfpack of NC State to head to Charlotte for the highly critical championship game.
Other factors that play in include the Seminoles defeating the Hurricanes and the Cavaliers of Virginia, and the Demon Deacons falling to the Terps next week.
The stakes are set high for the once ranked 5th team in the nation and the cards need to turn the right way, can the Noles’ get draw the right hand?
