It’s week ten and the Panthers are still playing as if it’s week three, opening the game with costly mistakes and memories of games and seasons past. The bye week did nothing to curve the teams self destructive tendencies and lack of winning ability. Cam Newton was sacked (twice) during the first half, Greg Olsen fumbled and dropped a pass…which VERY uncharacteristic of him, plus the defense failed to tackle much of the half all reulting in a 14 -0 Tennessee early lead. The Panthers went 3 and out on five possessions in the first half which put the Titans in great field position every time their offense took to the field. Newton and the Carolina offense didn’t have the rhythm they have been known for in previous games, which keep the Panthers out of the endzone the entire first half. The Carolina defense gave up huge plays, allowing Chris Johnson and the Tennessee offense complete control of the field. Tennessee led17-0 going into the half.
Somewhere late in the 3rd quarter the defense stepped up their playing to keep the Titans from scoring again in the half, but by the time the 4th quarter started the damage was done . By the end of the game Newton had been sacked five times and the team racked up 10 penalties for more than 100 total yard. The Titans had a BALL exploiting the Panthers Defense all game, especially in the second half when the Panthers pretty much handed the middle of the field over to the Tennessee offense.
For the first time all season the Panthers were unable to score a touchdown. For every good thing the Panthers did, they set themselves back with 4 bad plays and tons of penalties. Several times during the game Newton and the Carolina offense looked more like Jake Delholme and the 2009 offense instead of the number overall (QB) draft pick. With the L to Tennessee any hope of a play-off spot has been killed and left on the field. Next week the Panthers take their brand of football to the D to face the might Lions, and by the way they have played Detroit will hammer the final nail in this season’s coffin…good luck Team Panthers, you’re gonna need it!
