Accepting The Facts

Florida State’s ACC title hopes have been dashed. The Seminoles may have defeated the rival Hurricanes Saturday afternoon, but Clemson completed a comeback victory over Wake Forest, narrowly winning 31-28 to clinch the ACC Atlantic Division.

Florida State held off the University of Miami 23-19 to defeat to the once prestiged program of southern Florida. The Noles’ continued their win streak, improving to a modest 5 games directly after the 3 game flop from September to early October (ultimately costing a BCS birth). Once again the Seminoles defense looked astounding until the late fourth quarter, but still holding off the Hurricanes, after stopping two, two point conversions after 1 yard TD runs by RB Mike James of Miami in the latter part of the fourth.

EJ Manuel continued his consistency under center only having 6 incomplete passes on 23 attempts and throwing nearly for 200 yards with one touchdown to wide-out Rodney Smith. Although not the offensive attack that we have seen all season, the special teams shined in a game where the Noles’ only had 2 touchdowns. Greg Reid returned an 83 yard punt to the house in ¬†the final minute of the second quarter giving FSU a 10 point lead entering the half.

Freeman took the load of the carries, getting the ball 16 times out of the backfield rushing for 76 yards and an average of nearly 5 yards a rush. The true freshman has risen up to expectations this year and looks to improve in the offseason to prepare for a potential BCS run in 2012.

The Seminoles defense held star RB Lamar Miller under 100 yards on 22 carries and kept him out of the endzone as those duties went to goaline back Mike James who now has 7 rushing TDs on the season. Jacory Harris threw his 5th interception on the season (a lucky 5 on my standards), but accompanied by a goaline TD Pass to freshman Tight End Clive Walford.

The Hurricanes fell to 5-5 on the season that has been covered by numerous NCAA investigations, but all-in-all a season that could end with a winning record with high hopes for the future in Coral Gables.

Ranked Again

The Florida State Seminoles are ranked again at #25 in the BCS standings following their win against the Hurricanes. The Seminoles have not been ranked since their loss in Winston-Salem, NC to Wake Forest when they were at #23. It’s good to be back in the Top 25, but not the same when the preseason hype out of Tallahassee was highly publicized when the Noles’ were #5 back in September.

With most likely 3  games left in the season and no hope for an ACC title, this club hopes to continue their winning streak against the Cavaliers of Virginia before they head to The Swamp to face arch rival, The Florida Gators. FSU looks to be competing in a bowl for the 30th straight year in late 2011 once the regular season ends.

This season has been short of expectations, but finishing on a high end allows for a great offseason in Tallahassee.

Who says it’s Over?
