It’s the time of year when fantasy teams can be made or broken, so surfing the waivers wisely is important. An injury to Adrian Peterson will have many owners sweating the upcoming playoffs and blissful return for a once written off running back has got this week’s waivers in a frenzy. Let’s look at the week 12 waivers.
Kevin Smith – If you didn’t see the game this weekend, Kevin Smith went off for 201 total yards and 3 TDs, and even though it came at the expense of a lowly Carolina run defense Smith is a must add. Jahvid Best is not likely to return this season, and even if he does it will not be in the same form that he left in. Smith’s match ups against MIN, OAK and SD are favorable and he could be the difference in winning your league this season. Available in 81% of leagues currently, but not for long.
Toby Gerhart – It’s probably the worst thing for Adrian Peterson owners, and likely owners who used the first overall pick on him, Adrian Peterson went down this Sunday with an ankle injury. It’s late season injuries that frighten fantasy owners the most. Though, he is optimistic about returning soon, he is set to miss at least this next week’s game. So if you own Peterson or if your a shifty owner fixing to play versus a Peterson owner, grabbing Gerhart is a must. Available in 93% of leagues currently.
Ryan Grant – It hasn’t been beneficial to own a Green Bay running back this season, but with James Starks suffering a knee and an ankle sprain, he is worth a look. With a short week and the Packers playing Thursday, it’s likely that Starks will miss at least this next game, but I wouldn’t put it past Mike McCarthy and the Packers to save Starks for the playoff run. Available in 65% of leagues currently.
Torrey Smith – If Smith happens to be floating around in your league after some owner lost faith in the inconsistency of the rookie, he’s worth a roster spot if for nothing more than his playoff schedule which consists of IND, SD, and CLE in weeks 14-16 where he faces vulnerable pass defenses. Available in 40% of leagues currently.
Jake Locker – When Matt Hasselbeck left the game with an elbow injury, Locker came in and immediately breathed life into the offense, throwing for 140 yards and 2 TDs. Head coach, Mike Munchak, was hesitant to name Locker the starter for next week, but Hasselbeck’s injury may keep him out making Locker worth a speculative pick up in case he gets on a roll. His playoff match ups would be NO, IND, and JAC through week 14-16. Available in 98% of leagues.
Joe McKnight – Last Thursday McKnight came in for an injured Shonn Greene and played fairly well. With LT out with an MCL sprain and Greene playing through hurt ribs, he is worth an add if you can afford to roster him especially in PPR leagues. Greene has been ineffective this year and the Jets may be willing to give McKnight a run if remains the hot hand. Available in 88% of leagues currently.
CJ Spiller – Jackson hurt his calf this Sunday and his status for next Sunday is in doubt, putting CJ Spiller as a must add if or nothing more than a handcuff for Jackson owners. Available in 84% of leagues currently.
Caleb Hanie – Jay Cutler suffered a fractured right thumb this weekend and will be out for at least a few weeks with a possibility of returning for weeks 16 and/or 17. Cutler hasn’t had a stellar fantasy year and Caleb Hanie is probably more of a desperation add, but in 2 QB leagues he should be considered. Available in 99% of leagues.
