Chiefs’ New Quarterback Has A Lot To Learn

Well the Chiefs made it interesting for the first half. They came out looking confident behind first time starter Tyler Palko.
Coach Todd Haley did not hold back his quarterback. Instead he actually let him throw 38 total passes, 25 of which he completed. Right from the start, though, Palko was throwing the ball. He’s had a long journey up to this point in his career and he seemed excited to finally start an NFL game.
The Chiefs were able to move the ball, but similar to previous games they could not finish drives. Late in the first quarter they had the ball down in the red zone, but were unable to get it in the end zone and had to settle for a field goal, which was their only score of the game.
From that point on it got ugly for Kansas City. They were able to get pressure on Brady and sacked him a number of times, but when he figured out what the Chiefs’ defense was doing he smoothly settled in. Once that happened the Chiefs had no chance and it ended in a 34-3 romp.
Brady connected with his go to tight end Rob Gronkowski for two touchdowns and BenJarvus Green-Ellis pitched in with 81 yards. This was a hard hitting game by both teams, but any time you travel to Foxboro it’s going to be hard to win.
At times Palko looked comfortable in the pocket and at other times he looked extremely lost. There were a number of plays where he held on to the ball way too long and all he could do was take a sack. Then there were the three interceptions. To his defense he did face a ton of pressure, but turning the ball over three times is inexcusable. He was forcing the ball into triple coverage later in the game and that’s something he needs to understand he cannot do in the NFL.
If the Chiefs can take anything out of this game it’s that they were able to run the ball against a tough New England defense and Tyler Palko got his feet wet and can only get better from here. On the flip side, their remaining schedule is vicious and it starts with Pittsburgh on Sunday night.
