Left Speechless

Saturday night showed to be heartbreaking in Tallahassee, as the Seminoles fell to the Virginia Cavaliers, 14-13 in a kind of finish that words can’t describe.

The Noles’ fell to 7-4 (5-3) on the once dream season after another disappointing finish in northern Florida. It was the kind of game that a fan hopes for; an exciting finish with a wild twist. On the Seminoles last offensive play, EJ Manuel threw a ball towards the right sideline with his team still down by 1. The ball seemed to be caught by wide-out Bert Reed on a diving attempt, but the Seminoles had no timeouts and the play did not result in a first down, therefore it seemed like the clock had ran out giving the Cavaliers their 8th win of the season. But, not so fast on further review from the referees the pass was overturned and called incomplete as Reed let the ball hit the ground without him controlling it.

This left 8 seconds on the clock for a 48 yard attempt from the mostly accurate FSU kicker, Dustin Hopkins. Yet, things seemed to bounce towards the home team again as Virginia jumped offside on the field goal attempt giving the Seminoles an easier field goal. Sorry to disappoint here, but the 43 yard attempt sailed wide left handing the Noles’ their 4th loss on the season.

The game left Tallahassee in a state of shock, showing some weaknesses in their offense, such as showing clock management at the end may not be their strong suit. The Seminoles need to learn how to run the clock management offense, as I questioned some throws over the middle by QB EJ Manuel that did not surpass the first down mark. I thought coach Jimbo Fisher could have done a couple things differently this game as the goal line offense lacked when the Seminoles needed a touchdown to ice the Cavs down the stretch. That lack of touchdown ultimately cost them the football game and their ranking.

Just a week after moving up to #25 in the nation, Florida State quickly let that one fall right through their hands, hurting the type of bowl game the team may see in late December. Well, this week marks rivalry week again as the Noles’ head out to the Swamp to face the Gators in their annual last game of the season. The Seminoles are favored once again this season as they hope to squander UF for the second straight season. The Gators have had another rough schedule having to play both LSU and Alabama (blowouts), but in the rest of the conference games against ranked conference opponents, the Gators have stayed close, but haven’t gotten that win.

This week bills the biggest game of the season for the Seminoles and it comes at a time of desperation. A victory is needed and the only thing we can say is:

Screw Florida, let’s beat them in their own house.
