Must Win For Buffalo

Three short weeks ago the Buffalo Bills were in the position to take control of the AFC East when they faced the New York Jets. Now they have lost 3 straight games and are fighting for their playoff lives against the very same team. They are certainly not the Buffalo Bills we saw start the season 4-1. The defense can’t stop a nose bleed and the offense can’t score touchdowns. No more excuses, just win. With injuries piling up, it looks like the Bills are dressing a new team every week. Fred Jackson, Terrence McGee and Donald Jones are all on the IR and won’t be seeing any action for the rest of the season.
So what now? These no name Buffalo Bills have just gotten a little more obscure. They have signed RB Tashard Choice, WR Derek Hagan and have promoted Kamar Aiken from the practice squad. After his shaky performance last Sunday, the Bills have move Andy Levitre out from under center and replaced him with Kraig Urbik.
With the loss of Jackson, it’s time for C.J. Spiller to prove that he can be a starter. “Those are blue whale shoes to fill,” said Spiller “He’s one of the best doing it in the league right now.” The running game has been the one stable aspect of their game all year. Let’s just hope they can keep it up on Sunday.
How do we stay positive after 3 lopsided losses? To be honest it’s hard. Last year was different, I really didn’t expect the Bills to win, but this year I do. They have the players and the coach to go to the playoffs, but with the injuries and poor play lately, it might just be another year of what ifs.
This is how crazy the injury list is:
George Wilson is getting better but slowly and he’s not ready to return to practice yet with his neck injury.
David Nelson got shaken up in the loss to Miami. He did return to the game but did leave again. He did not practice on Wednesday as he recovers from the stomach flu he had last week. He expects to practice on Thursday.
Naaman Roosevelt did not practice on Wednesday with a shoulder ailment but is expected to be fine for Sunday.
Stevie Johnson is day to day with an ongoing shoulder problem. He did not practice on Wednesday but did work in the weight room. He is expected to play on Sunday.
Demetrius Bell missed his sixth straight game with a right shoulder injury. He continues to practice on a limited basis and may be ready to return to action against the Jets but he won’t be starting.
Eric Wood suffered a torn ACL against Dallas and had successful surgery on the injury. He will do nothing for weeks as he allows the ligament to heal before starting rehab. He hopes to make a full recovery for training camp.
Chris White has suffered a torn ACL in the loss to Dallas and has been placed on injured reserve. He is also lost for the rest of the season.
Kyle Williams has been placed on injured reserve ending his season. He has been battling bone spurs in his foot since training camp. He saw a specialist in North Carolina and the decision was made to have surgery. It was considered a success and he should be ready to go next season.
Rian Lindell broke a bone in his right shoulder when he made a shoestring tackle on the second half kickoff against the Jets. Chan Gailey said it’s a week to week thing and they expect him back before the season is over. He is fine with carrying two kickers for the time being.
Shawne Merriman has been placed on injured reserve ending his season. His Achilles flared up and he decided to have surgery to keep it from rupturing. The surgery was deemed successful.
Roscoe Parrish suffered a severe left ankle injury in the first half against the Raiders. He has been placed on injured reserve ending his season.
Marcus Easley has been put on injured reserve with a heart ailment that has ended his season. The illness was first mentioned on Friday when Easley missed practice. There is no additional information available about the ailment.
Reggie Torbor has been placed on season ending injured reserve with a shoulder injury. No word if it the same injury that ended his season last year. He had surgery for a torn labrum
