Best Case Scenario

I know it’s admirable to want to win when all the best players are on the field… but hearing the news early this week that Minnesota’s list of questionable players included Adrian Peterson made me smile about as big as when I heard Kim K’s mom tell a radio talk show host that her daughter didn’t make any money off her two-part wedding special on E!.
Last week, (specifically in his 43 yard grab to seal the victory against the Titans) we saw a re-emergence of Roddy White as one of Matt Ryan’s most lethal weapons. But is that one game enough to vanish the visions of dropped balls dancing in my head?
The guy has 47 catches for 573 yards, but rather than focus on the balls he’s caught, I can’t help but remember those he hasn’t. It will be interesting to see this Sunday what the Falcons elect to do with what has become more or less a conundrum concerning Roddy White. Is it really that crazy to consider that White may be more a threat to his own team (and Matty’s passer rating) than he is to opposing defenses?
Regardless of which Roddy White shows up on Sunday, on the offensive side of the ball it is imperative that Atlanta stick to their running game allow Michael Turner to just chip away at a mediocre Vikings defense. Jared Allen’s ability to get pressure on Ryan will be a key matchup, if you will, to watch throughout the game. Hopefully Matty Ice will have an opportunity to be patient, allow plays to develop and give the Falcons a chance to play THEIR game and not be forced to change up and try anything fancy.
Percy Harvin is an obvious scoring threat for Minnesota and is essentially one of those x-factor type players that are nightmares for opposing defenses. Regardless of how you game plan, every time he is on the field there is that looming chance that he will break out and and make a huge momentum-changing play.
It appears that the stars have aligned for Atlanta to end the holiday weekend with a victory against a Vikings team who has struggled to find their identity all year. With Peterson out, the Falcons are double-digit favorites at home in the Georgia Dome and I gotta tell ya… I think the oddsmakers have got it right!
