Redskins…Won?

Posted By Mercedes Green On Nov 28 2011 @ 9:14 am In Washington Redskins | No Comments

Yes you read that right the Washington Redskins won.  They rallied 16 points in the 4th quarter and beat the Seattle Seahawks on the road.  Even before the game began there were multiple instances of both teams scrapping and would continue onto the field for the majority of the game.   The best news for the Redskins is that Santana Moss was back.  His yardage would have been much more than the 29 recorded due to the horrendous amount of penalties the Skins chalked up (10-115).

TE Fred Davis started the penalties after he made a great play then decided to be a dick and got an unsportsmanlike conduct one for 15 yards.  However, this did not deter the offense and with many play action plays, the Skins barreled down the field on their opening drive and scored a TD.  7-0 Redskins.  This would be the only score in the 1stquarter.

In the 2nd, Rex Grossman threw his first interception of the game and gave the Seahawks the ball within the red zone and they scored a TD off the turnover to tie 7-7.  The Skins would get another scoring opportunity with a FG attempt, but it was blocked.   7-7 into the half.

In the 3rd quarter, Grossman threw his second interception, but the Seahawks would not score on it.  More penalties for the Skins in the 3rd with a pass interference call yielding a Seattle FG to take the lead 10-7.  The call was so bad that the commentators used the word “awful” to describe how bad it was.

The 4th quarter was a TD bonanza with Seattle striking first to increase their lead to by 10.  The Redskins strike back with a rush TD by rookie Roy Helu to bring them within 3.  Rex Grossman at this point had thrown 2 interceptions, so what does he do?  He throws a 50 yard pass to Anthony Armstrong into end zone, full covered, but he manages to catch the ball.  There was actually a defensive pass interference call against the Seattle as well, but declined the Skins add another 6.  20-17. Why not 7?  Because the extra point was also blocked by the same Seahawk player Bryant.

Seahawks down by 3, 4th and 5. They attempt.  Skins clearly showing blitz and get a sack and take over on downs.  At the 1:09 mark, Gano kicks a 25 yard FG, no blocks and increase lead to 23-17.  With Seattle getting the ball back for one last try, DeAngelo Hall steps in for an interception and game lock.

Congrats Redskins.  You really earned this win, even with all the mistakes.  Grossman 314 yards to Jackson’s 144.  The running game was strong and the defense, although only 2 sacks this time, held on the entire game.   I’m proud again.  HTTR!
