Oilers Can’t Stop the Hurricane

On Wednesday, December 7, 2011, the Edmonton Oilers(13-11) face the Carolina Hurricanes(8-17). The Hurricanes have lost 6 straight. Oilers are home for this one and are looking to get a W. In the 1st period the Hurricanes look to strike first with a “shot” by Chad LaRose. This goal went over review and was ruled no goal for a kicked put into the net. Later in the 1st Edmonton’s Eric Belanger(1) (assisted by: Paajarvi, Sutton) puts one in at 10:33. This gives Edmonton the lead and the first strike. But the Hurricanes bounce back with 37 seconds left in the 1st, Hurricane’s Jeff Skinner(12)(unassisted) takes the advantage of a lose puck and zings one through the pipes. After the 1st period the game was all tied up with 1 a piece. The Hurricanes out shooted the Oilers in the 1st 10-7. We go into the second and the Hurricanes don’t waste any time getting another one with Jamie McBain(3) (assisted by: Kaberle, Faulk) putting one in the first 4:36 in the 2nd. After that goal Carolina starts getting on a role putting in 2 more unaswered goals by Patrick Dwyer(4) (assisted by: Staal, Kaberle) and also a shorthanded goal by Chad LaRose(8) (assisted by: Allen). Edmonton’s Ben Eager (1) (assisted by: Petrell, Lander) puts his first goal up on the board this season with 4:10 left in the 2nd making it a 4-2 game in favor of Carolina. Edmonton out-shooted Carolina 10-9 in the 2nd. Going into the 3rd the Hurricanes and Oilers will split in goals with one a piece. Carolina’s Tuomo Ruutu(9) (assisted by: Jokinen, Gleason) in the beginning of the third (3:43). And with 6:39 left in the 3rd, Edmonton’s Ryan Nugent-Hopkins(13) (assisted by: Gagner, Eberle). Carolina out-shooted Edmonton 14-8 in the 3rd. Edmonton’s penalties were a big factor in this game with giving up 2 power play goals to the Hurricanes. Hurricane’s head coach, Kirk Muller, gets his first win as a NHL coach and I’m sure that feels good! The Oilers next game is Friday, December 9, against the Colorado Avalanche at 7:30.
