On any other day, the C.J. Wilson signing would be the lead baseball story in LA, and probably the baseball world, but when the Angels signed Albert Pujols a couple hours prior to signing Wilson, it fell between the cracks.
However, signing Wilson is huge. Obviously it hurts the Angels biggest AL west rivals from Texas, but it also gives the Angels one of the best rotations in baseball. And if Jerome Williams pans out, it also makes the Angels the top rotation with guys with the last name that starts with the letter ‘W’. Like that ‘W’.
I wonder how quickly Wilson signed after he heard the Angels signed Pujols. The deal with Wilson is reportedly for 5 years at roughly 77 million dollars. Yes, it’s a lot of money, but it’s not as much as the Angels paid Jered Weaver.
The best thing about Wilson is the lack of wear and tear on his arm. The first 5 years in Texas, Wilson was in the bullpen, and he only threw 280.2 innings.
The past 2 years, Wilson has only gotten better. He has thrown 427.1 innings, while going 31-15. His ERA in the past couple years is a solid 3.14.
And he saved his best for the AL West clubs. Last year he was 8-5 and against the division rivals, but his ERA was a fantastic 2.59. His ERA against the Halos was 3.00, so I know they are glad they don’t have to face him anymore.
The 31 year old Wilson has to be happy to be coming home, as he grew up in the Orange County area. Let’s hope he doesn’t get comfortable pitching in front of family and friends. Nah, that won’t happen, not with the fire ball, Weaver, on his team.
I also like that Wilson already has postseason experience. Wilson pitched in the past 2 World Series, so he understands pressure on the biggest stage.
Yes, I know Angels must wonder why the Rangers didn’t make a bigger effort to sign Wilson, but with the way the Angels back end of the rotation looked at the end of last year, I’ll take 16 wins anytime.
Off-season goals for the Angels:
Fix rotation: Check
Get bog bopper: Check, check
Get new catcher: Check
Fix bullpen: Check
Write a big: Check

O'kay I'll talk about myself a little. I've been working in the television/radio industry for over 21 years. I started at 2 so I am just a tad over 21 (That is a joke). My career has taken me around and and even out of the United States. Right now I call Vegas home, but I just never know where life will take me next. Until 2002 my irrational love for the California/Anaheim/LAA had taken me down some very dark roads, but with Arte Moreno in charge I finally saw the a light at the end of the road. I really love most every sports and having as much fun as possible.
