Chiefs Try To Stay Alive

Posted By Matt Brody On Dec 9 2011 @ 9:00 am In Kansas City Chiefs | No Comments

This week’s game between the Chiefs and Jets is a battle of two unconventional teams.  Neither squad makes it look pretty, but both have found ways to win this season.

Three weeks ago the Jets looked like they were falling apart, but after back-to-back wins they’re currently tied for an AFC Wild Card spot.

The Chiefs are also coming off a big win.  They took advantage of an injured Bears team and kept their season alive.

After everything Kansas City has been through this season they’re only two games behind Denver and Oakland for the division lead and in the AFC West who knows what could happen?  It’s definitely not going to be easy for Coach Todd Haley and crew to make the playoffs, but as cliche as it sounds they’re going to have to take it one game at a time.

The Chiefs’ biggest weakness this season has been their offense; they haven’t scored more than ten points in a game since Halloween.  Points will definitely be at a premium again this week considering that New York has one of the best defenses in the league.  If you don’t think Coach Rex Ryan will be sending every blitz in the book at Tyler Palko then you’re just crazy.  He knows what the Chiefs’ weak spot on offense is and he is going to attack it.

That being said, the Chiefs will have to do what they do best on offense and that’s run the ball.  This is the first time Thomas Jones is facing his old team and you can bet he wants to beat them.

When the Chiefs are on defense they’re gonna need to do what they did last week and that is get to the quarterback.  They sacked Caleb Hanie seven times last Sunday and if they’re able to get pressure on Mark Sanchez he’s bound to make a couple game-changing mistakes.

Turnovers are key.  The Chiefs are at their best when they take the ball away from the opposing team.  Whether it’s an interception or a special teams turnover (the Jets lead the league in special teams giveaways) Kansas City needs every spark it can get.  The Meadowlands is gonna be rumbling on Sunday and if the Chiefs can quiet the crowd good things are to come.
