Friday was the official beginning of the NBA season as training camps across the country opened up.  This was also the first day that teams trade and/or sign players.  There was plenty of contraversy swirling around the NBA, but unlike last year, none of the swirl involved the Miami Heat.  No, the Heat made some key moves, yet none of them made waves when compared to what was going on in places like New Orleans, Los Angeles, or New York.

Miami will win the 2012 NBA Championship.  This is a team that many people thought came up short last year, but I believe they finished up exactly where they should have.  They lost in the NBA Finals to what was, very simply the best TEAM in the NBA.  Now the Heat have played together for a full season and today they resigned two key role players in Mario Chalmers and James Jones.  In addition, Miami signed free agent Shane Battier.  The former Duke star will bring great defense, unselfish play, and clutch 3pt shooting to South Beach.  These are all things that the Heat can really use moving forward.

The Lakers, Nets, and Knicks are all pressing to make big trades/signings.  These teams are chasing the Heat.  Miami went throught some growing pains last year, as Chris, Dwyane, and LeBron learned to play together.  Now the Heat are ready to take the next step, whicht is the NBA Title.  I don’t care if L.A. gets Chris Paul, or New Jersey gets Dwight Howard, barring injury, the Miami Heat will win the championship.  They have the best player in the NBA in Wade, and two of the other top ten in James and Bosh.  If you couple that talent with the continuity that is present in Miami, the recipe for success is clear.

Pat Riley isn’t the coach anymore, but his influence is present everywhere.  The Heat sign Shane Battier.  Excellent!  Miami doesn’t sign Greg Oden.  Even better.  Riles will make some more tweaks to the roster, no doubt, but the core from last year is intact.  Plus, you can expect to see an increased role from guys like Dexter Pittman.  The Heat will be better and teams like Dallas, who lost Tyson Chandler, will be worse.  That reminds me, we now look forward to Christmas Day, when several marquis match-ups will take place, including a Finals rematch.  Opening Day.
