PGA TOUR: What It Means: Chevron & Dubai
Posted By Jeremy Schilling On Dec 12 2011 @ 2:31 pm In PGA | No Comments
Two big events happened over the last two weeks: Tiger Woods’ unofficial (yet hugely important) Chevron World Challenge, and the European Tour’s season-ending Dubai World Championship. Here’s my thoughts in this week’s What It Means:
1) Tiger’s victory at the Chevron was huge for multiple reasons. Obviously it proved that his swing changes are coming around and he’s playing higher quality golf. But the two big things I took from this was that: a) he finished strong, birdieing the last two holes for the win, and b) he mentally was strong enough to FINISH.
He’s talked for years about willing putts to the hole, and that takes mental strength and fortitude. He did that at the Chevron.
2) Congrats to Luke Donald on being the first member of both the PGA and European Tours to win both money lists in the same year. It’s a feat that might never be done again, and it speaks to the consistency that Donald experienced in all of 2011. I’d look for Donald to win a major in 2012.
3) Alvaro Quiros won the season-ending Dubai World Championship yesterday. Quiros is most known for being extremely long off the tee but he does have a complete game, as exhibited by his victory yesterday. It’s only a matter of time before he starts putting multiple wins together.
