I will be the first person to admit that I turned my TV off after the Nets started 1-12 from the field. I was sitting here counting down the days until Deron Williams can leave the Nets because I just flat out felt bad for him. I decided eh, why not check in and I see the Nets are down 21. Now I was thinking about how well Jared Sullinger would look up front with Brook Lopez and I kind of got excited. But then the Nets showed some resilience? A 16-2 run to cut it to seven? I felt like a 16 year old girl the way my emotions were fluttering. Even following a 12-0 run byWashingtonto end the third and enter the fourth quarter, the Nets still fought back to win the game. Is this a sign of things to come?
After the dismal preseason, I must say the Nets looked surprisingly good tonight even without Brook Lopez.
Coming into the game I had a few questions that I felt needed to be answered if the Nets were going to win this game.
Who would win the matchup of point guards?
That question was emphatically answered by Deron Williams who went for 23, 8 & 8 against Wall’s 13, 8 & 6. But this match up was not even close. Deron Williams took over the game when he needed to and got to the rim at will. He also added four three-pointers and was without a doubt the best player on the court when the flight landed the other day.
The other question I had was how will the Nets play in the front court without Lopez?
Now Petro didn’t do THAT bad of a job in the middle. Granted he does not have the jumping ability to stay with a guy like JaVale McGee, he did a pretty solid job of holding down the paint with 11 points and 5 rebounds. Now if Petro takes another shot under one minute remaining in the game, I think I will have a conniption. I don’t know who he thinks he is but never again.
I am riding the honesty train tonight and I had Kris Kardashian written but Kris Humphries deserved to be called by his actual name (for tonight at least). He had 21 points and 16 rebounds. He heard boos from the fans but apparently the Wizards only sell 100 level seats so no upper level support. He went out there and shut them and all of the critics up (for tonight at least).
Now for the negative spot: The bench. Period. Done. End.
According to ESPN: The starters for the Nets had a +/- of the following: Williams +22, James +13, Humphries +24, Petro +21 and Morrow + 13.
Again, bench sucked.
Nets hostAtlantaWednesday. We will see if this win was a fluke or a ray of light for the Nets.
