All’s quiet on the Angels front, but I found something

I’ve wanted to write something about the Angels, but things have been rather quiet lately. I guess when a team spends over $350 million in one day, things were bound to slow down.

While there is nothing new happening…….What? Wait…This just in. Angels ink Ryan Langerhans, Eric Hurley and Robinzon Diaz to minor league contracts. Nothing to get excited about as these guys will just fill spots in spring training.

Langerhans is a great guy though. Interviewed him last year. Too bad he can’t hit much, as his .173/.317/.346 through 19 games last year with the Mariners will attest.

Hurley was once a big prospect with the Rangers. A slew of arm injuries have derailed him recently, but I guess you never know.

I know nothing about Diaz, other than the fact that he is the first guy I have ever heard of who has a ‘Z’ instead of an ‘S’ in his first name.

What about some ex-Angels? Here’s a shocker, Fernando Rodney is still a free agent. I guess he’s waiting to find out where Ryan Madson and Francisco Cordero sign before he inks his huge deal. Knowing the way MLB recycles bad ball players, he has a million dollar deal waiting right around the corner. I can hear it now, “Ball one, ball two, ball three, ball four”.

Former reliever Don Stanhouse was once know as “Full Pack”, because former Orioles manager Earl Weavers used to go throw a full pack of cigarettes watching him pitch.

I think Rodney’s new nickname should be “Ball four”, because that’s pretty much all he throws. Buyer beware on that guy.

Jason Bulger is now with the Minnesota Twins. Would it surprise you one bit if he breaks camp with the team? The man does has a great arm. When he was alive, I used to argue all the time with Rory Markas about Bulgers spot on the Angels. Can you guess which side I argued. If there was a league between AAA and the bigs, Bulger would be in the Hall of Fame.

Jeff Mathis re-upped with the Jays for 1.5 Million. The baseball world never ceases to shock me.

Haven’t hear of anyone offering Russell Branyan or Horatio Ramirez a contract. I think the next chapter of their life is about to begin.

And what about Joel Pineiro? He threw a few good games for the Halos. It might be a good idea for him to sign with the A’s, because he sure didn’t fare too well against them last year.

Vernon Wells………Damn, he’s still on the team.

More notes:

Nice to see the Angels are once again saving a spot on the team for Kevin Jepsen, who impresses no one when he pitches…except for Angels management.

Haven’t heard anything about Michael Kohn, but I am sure he be considered a huge part of the Angels pen in 2012.

Less than 60 days before pitchers and catchers are scheduled to report. Can it just get here already.

Go Angels!
