Cowboys start cleaning out their lockers…F.O.R.E

Not the way the Dallas Cowboys wanted to bring in 2012 and how do you start a blog when your team goes from holding onto a playoff spot to a total destruction and play themselves right out of that playoff spot.  We’ll the Dallas Cowboys did just that the last month or so of this season losing 4 out of the last 5 games and are now shining up the golf clubs, cleaning out their lockers as they watch the elite teams play in the quest for the Super Bowl.

When was the last time the NFC East winner was 9-7 and there was no wild card out of the NFC East?, I am pretty sure this is a first for a 9-7 record winning the NFC East and we’ll the wild card stat comes and goes but New York Giants, Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles, Washington Redskins, how do you spell under-achievers?, NFC East people.

Sunday night had the Dallas Cowboys travelling to New York / New Jersey to play the New York ‘football’ Giants.   The same New York Giants that mounted that incrdeible 4th quarter comeback weeks ago to beat the Cowboys and almost turn the Cowboys inside out.  To be honest with you the Cowboys never turned themselves right side in after that game.  Do I need to dwell on the score?, ok, Giants 31, Cowboys 14.

The Cowboys did not seem to come prepared to play their most important game of the season Sunday night, from the kick-off the Cowboys looked like they were playing on their heels, one step behind the Giants on almost every play, offence or defence, special teams, kick-offs, punts, you name it but the Cowboys looked one step behind the Giants.   The running game and I love Felix Jones but he looked like slow motion on some of his runs and Sammy Morris, enough said.  Dez Bryant, where were you on the kick-offs and punts?, I swear you were running backwards.

I won’t throw Dallas quarterback Tony Romo right under the bus but clearly he is the captain of the offence and has to be able to move the ball and when you play 3 out of 4 quarters in a football game, don’t expect to win and all the Cowboys did yesterday was play 3 out of 4 quarters and last time I checked, unless you were Drew Brees, Tom Brady or have some magical power you don’t win football games playing a quarter of a game.  I know Romo was playing injured but that is not an excuse, yes his hand looked swollen but he did not look like he was in too much pain and until he threw the INT, there was some promise to make a comeback happen but that INT was the turning point and a Dallas comeback was highly unlikely after that.  Romo came up with some good numbers but it took whatever happened in the locker room at half-time to even consider the Cowboys as winning this game at all an option..

Now onto the defence, there has to be some tweeks to the defence over the off-season or it will be another long season next year for the Dallas Cowboys.  Missed tackles and I mean missed tackles.   On every Giant 1st half TD, I counted at least 2 missed tackles on every TD, come on Cowboys tackling 101, grab a hold, grasp, don’t let go, wait for help, gang tackle.  It almost seemed the 1st half that the Giants had one extra player out there the way they were moving the ball at will and of course not allowing the Cowboys to move the ball on offence.

So the off-season starts for the Cowboys, where do they go now?, what do they look at for the upcoming draft?, trades?, is Tony Romo the answer?, can Tony Romo bring the Cowboys to the promised land?, can Tony Romo win a game that counts?, what do we do with the defence?.   Hopefully we can answer these questions in weeks / months to come we’ll we football fans enjoy the road to the Super Bowl.

take care, all the best in 2012, another NFL season comes to a close for Cowboy Nation but that does not mean I won’t be back, check back often or stay tuned to twitter
