Christmas brought Senator Fans a nice gift this year, lots of excitement and entertainment on the ice. As the team continues to fight hard, game in and game out, displaying their talents and previewing what the future holds for the Senators organization. With loads of young talent and speed this year, it’s the best style of hockey us sens fans have had to watch in a long time, even better than the high scoring days of not long ago when the Pizza line was tearing up the score sheet.
The Senators played the Montreal Canadians on Dec 27th. Zack Smith, showing why he is going to be a great player in this league, similar to Mike Fisher. Smith scored the game’s 1st goal. I just hope they don’t over pay him like they did with Fisher as they tried to turn him into a 2nd line scorer. Some players are just better off as grinders; don’t ever change a player’s style of play. Craig Anderson was brutal and gave up 4 goals on 7 shots before getting the pull. Habs Fans filled up Scotia bank place area once again and do what they do best, chant non hockey related things. Nothing much else happened in this game so we won’t talk about it. Too much turkey for the Senators I assume as they had no legs in a 6-2 loss.
Friday saw the Calgary Flames come to town and once again lots of Flames fans were in the building, this is expected, a Sens team who is only 20 years old in a market where most people grew up cheering on the Habs or Leafs or other NHL teams. The Sens were not up to speed to start this game, falling down 3-0 and had to mount a comeback, but not something that is new to them this season. Alex Auld who was pulled this time after the 1st period. This would need extra minutes to determine a winner, and the Captain Daniel Alfredsson did what he does best, carries the team on his shoulders. He wires a one timer past the Flames Goalie. That goal giving the Sens the win and his 400th career goal, also his 11th of the season at the 1.11 mark of over time, the man is just magical.
A trip to buffalo again, seems like these two teams played once a week this past month, oh wait they did… the Sens and Sabres exchanged goals back and forth and forcing a shootout to decide on a winner. Bobby Butler was the Hero this time scoring the Shootout winner. Who the Hero be next game? always seems to be a surprise. Sens have picked up points in 4 of the last 5 games. The new year should be a great one.
