Chiefs Finish Season On A High Note

Posted By Matt Brody On Jan 3 2012 @ 11:55 am In Kansas City Chiefs | No Comments

The Chiefs were able to stop the Broncos, but Denver still found its way into the playoffs.

Kansas City kept Tim Tebow in check all day and stopped what could have been another last minute comeback when Brandon Carr intercepted a pass with eight seconds left.  The Broncos had the ball with an opportunity to win it, but the Chiefs stepped up and did what so many other teams were unable to do…stop Tebow in the fourth quarter.

Tebow finished the day completing six out of his 22 passes for 60 yards.  The Chiefs’ secondary refused to allow the quarterback to beat them.  The Broncos were however able to run the ball, racking up 216 yards on 47 attempts.  Tebow was credited with 16 of those yards, while Willis McGahee scrambled for 145.

Kyle Orton definitely felt a sense of pride after beating his former team.  He finished the day with 180 yards on 15 of 29 passes.  Both teams struggled on offense, but Orton did enough to put the Chiefs in a position to win.  He connected with Dwayne Bowe six times for 93 yards and the two had great chemistry before Bowe left the game with an injury.

Who knows if Kyle Orton will be a Kansas City Chief next season, but in the past three games he has proven that he belongs in the NFL.  The Chiefs have a number of issues to address in the offseason, including their head coach.  Will Romeo Crennel retain the job or will they find a replacement?  It’s been a long, tough season and their 7-9 record is definitely not what Kansas City had expected, but you have to play with the hand you’re dealt even if it’s not what you had hoped for.
