Sens country still out numbers

There has been some talk lately after the recent Ottawa Senators game vs the Montreal Canadians, that Senators fans are not as loyal as they seem. It’s also been said that they don’t attend Montreal or Toronto games on purpose, leaving the building filled with Habs and Leaf fans when these teams come play in Ottawa.
When the Habs and Leafs travel to Ottawa, these games sell out in a hurry. However the attendance at these games are rather one sided and always in favor of the Leafs or Habs. Fans have been saying, they would rather miss those games because of the loud and obnoxious out of town fans and hate when visiting teams fans fill up our rink. Now personally I think it’s great, the atmosphere is always more rowdy in these games but to think home town fans deliberately miss out or refuse to go to these games is just ridiculous. It’s simple to why the Leafs, Habs and even Canucks…

For those who don’t know, and I’d be shocked if you didn’t because every hockey fan knows that the Ottawa Senators are considered a young franchise. The Senators are celebrating just their 20th season in the national hockey league. They have had a good cup run back in 2007 and multiple playoff runs in their 20 years of excitants. Now to get into details…
Ottawa is basically a city that supports the original 6 teams, Montreal, a 2 hour drive east on highway 417 and Toronto is a 4 hour drive down highway 401. Generation of fan grew up cheering for the leafs and habs and even some bruins and Blackhawks fan grew up here. An older generation of fans have been here for a long time, they then passed on their passion to their kids and their kids making the Ottawa area a force for Leafs and Habs fans.
Now when the Senators returned to the NHL in 1992, you can obviously say that many fans did no convert to Senator fans. It would take decades to weed out the Leafs and Habs fan who remain in the area. Today we see a wide range of younger senators fans who are growing up and cheering on the local team but we always have those leaf and habs fans that fill up the building when their rivals come to town. Many who travel here to Ottawa because they cannot get a ticket in their own city. That being said, Ottawa doesn’t have a high number of season ticket holders and it was not too long ago when Ottawa has the number #1 game day sales in the league. How many Season ticket holders are even Senators fans? I strongly believe that not many are. A lot of them are business own, you see the lower bowl full of Habs and Leaf fan, I like to think those people are casual Senator fans but show their true colors when their boy hood team comes to town.
There will be a time, perhaps in 10 or 15 years when Senator fans over rule the original 6 fans are remain in this city and area but until then “Go leafs Go” and “Ole ole ole” and “Luuuuu” will continue to be heard throughout the Scotia Bank Arena for at least another decade until the New generation and sens army as assembled their troops.
