Kansas City Sticks With Romeo Crennel

Romeo Crennel is officially the head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs.  It took the organization a little while to make its final decision, but at the end of the day they decided he is their guy.

This will be Crennel’s second stint as a head coach and he hopes this one will be better than last time.  When the 64-year-old coached the Cleveland Browns from 2005-2008 he finished with a record of 24-40.  That is not going to cut it in Kansas City.

After taking over for Todd Haley he led his team to victories in two out of their last three, including an upset of the defending champion Packers.  It was clear Crennel had won over his players; they just seemed excited and energetic in the final few games.  That had to play a part in the front office’s decision.

Crennel is known to be an easy going guy, but he’ll also get in your face if he has to.  He’s always been a defensive minded coach and at the end of the season their defense was definitely the strong point of the team.  They gave up a combined 30 points in the final three games.  In Todd Haley’s final game they gave up 37 against the Jets.

The Chiefs definitely lack talent at numerous positions and it’s going to be tough to rebuild, but they do have weapons when healthy so they’re not completely helpless.  Crennel has a lot of work to do, but it is now his team and let’s see what he does with it.
