Derrick Rose missed his second game in a row due to his nagging toe injury but that did not stop the Bulls from putting up 118 points against the Phoenix Suns Tuesday night. The Bulls improved to 13-3 after their 118-97 victory over Phoenix and this was an impressive showing given their offensive struggles the night before. After poor point guard play from the Bulls Monday night Tom Thibodeau replaced John Lucas in the starting lineup with C.J. Watson who had an impressive showing with 23 points and 5 assists, while filling in for the injured Rose. The Bulls had all 5 starters in double digits and were led by Carlos Boozer with his 31 points and 6 rebounds. This was a good game as far as shooting percentage as both teams shot over 51% from the floor but the main difference was turnovers, the Bulls forced 19 while only committing 6 of their own.
Even though the Bulls gave up 97 points this was a very good defensive game played by them because the Suns shot a very good 51.4% from the floor but the Bulls were able to force turnovers and make it hard for the Suns to keep up with them and somehow win the game.
The Bulls may have won tonight but they need Derrick Rose back in the lineup because he is one of the best players in the game and he creates mismatches and makes it hard for opposing teams to guard him with their point guard and the other teams have to shift defenses around to accommodate for his superior skills to most other point guards. Rose is a very important piece to the puzzle to win a championship, but defense is also a very important piece. The Bulls are one of the better defensive teams in the league and they are going to need to keep that up in order to contend because even though they have had role players contribute recently, outside three or four players the Bulls usually fail to get that night in and night out so they tend to have offensive collapses at times, minus a few players.
