A new Kind of Last Second Magic

Most of the time when people think of last second magic, they think of a long drive ending in a score, but not on Sunday afternoon. On Sunday afternoon a worn down and beaten Patriots secondary stopped Anquan Boldin one yard short of a first down and that was the beginning of the magic.

Flacco started off slow, but then, in the second quarter went eight for eight and ended the quarter with more yards than Brady and a touchdown. Something was happening that no one expected, Brady was being outplayed. However, the Patriots maintained the league for most of the game.

The Ravens were committing penalties and, more importantly, Green-Ellis was running the ball at will. At the end of the half he was averaging over six yards, had a touchdown, and ended the game with 68 yards; an impressive stat for a Patriots running back.

Brady was still moving the ball because he is Tom Brady, but they kept coming up with only field goals. Brady made sure that his defense was getting the rest they needed, but he could not make anything big happen. He was even missing passes, including a for sure touchdown to Grankowski that instead lead to only a field goal.

Brady’s poor game eventually caught up with the Patriots. Flacco hit Pitta in the end zone to take the Ravnes first lead early in the fourth. Pitta, Evans, and Boldin were all playing to their potential and this helped give them their first lead of the game. Despite the Patriots virtually shutting down Ray Rice.

Brady was playing un-Brady-esk, but still had the chance to drive down the field and win. And that is exactly what he did. With Green-Ellis, and some short passes, the Patriots moved the ball down the field for a touchdown. Brady finished the drive with his first ever rushing postseason touchdown.

Flacco then drove the ball down the field like he had been all day, with every player catching the ball. But then, after a Lee Evans drop in the end zone, Anquan Boldin was stuffed one yard short and the Ravens were forced to go for the tie. Then the last minute magic happened.

The kick hooked left and the Pats won. For once a missed field goal is what the Pats cheered about, instead of the usual made field go by the Pats to win.

It was a great win for the whole Patriots team, not just Brady tying the post season win record(I stand corrected). If they can play as a team once more, with Brady playing a little better, a fourth ring will be placed around his finger.
