Lakeshow Roadie Part 1

The Los Angeles Lakers take their oh so familiar, “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” act on the road for their first extensive road trip of the season. Thanks to a lost to the Utah Jazz last night 96-87, they’re 1-1 with a week full of road work to follow.

The previous evening, they went into the “Mile High Club”, better know as the Pepsi Center and a got a big win against the Denver Nuggets 93-89. So what was the difference between Friday Night and Saturday night?

Andrew Goudelock.

He scored 13 points on Friday and only scored 4 on Saturday. Now obviously, I don’t literally mean that Goudelock is “the difference maker”, but its what he represents, that fourth individual that can assist the Lakers “Big Three” with some offensive production.

In Utah, The Mamba had 26 points, The Spaniard had 24 points and 16 rebounds, and AB had 21 points and 12 boards. The next highest scorer for the Lakers was Matt Barnes with 5 points.

In the words of the ESPN Gameday crew, “Come on Man!”

With their anemic bench, and lack of offensive production from the one (PG) and three (SF) spot, the Lakers can not seem to separate themselves from the middle of the pack in the Western Conference, and simply can not win on the road. I do see some eminent moves being made by March 15, but for now, coach Mike Brown has to work his overachieving magic (like he did in Cleveland) and get the Lakers supporting cast to step up their level of play ASAP in this shortened NBA season.

The Mamba and Co. begin next week’s slate of games in his hometown, as they take on a re-emerging Philadelphia 76ers squad. They finish up the week with a match-up against their most hated rivals, the Boston Celtics, then head to The Mamba’s second basketball home, Madison Square Garden, to take on the New York Knicks, and lastly finish up the roadie in Toronto to take on the Raptors.

All of these games are winnable, but there’s one problem, they’re all played on the road. Good luck with that Lakeshow.
