The Chicago Bulls improved their record to 21-6 on the year after their 21 point lopsided battle against the New Jersey Nets on Monday. Derrick Rose only had 4 points in 11 minutes of action on Monday and that made the victory even that more impressive because of how all of the other players on the team were able to step up and fill the void of Derrick Rose, who has been dealing with back tightness of late, and Richard Hamilton out of action with a right thigh injury. The Bulls had five players in double digits as Carlos Boozer led the team with 24 points and Luol Deng contributed 19 points and Ronnie Brewer had 12 points, in the starting lineup. Off of the bench C.J. Watson provided a spark at the point guard position, with Rose playing limited minutes, Watson contributed 14 points with 11 assists and Taj Gibson scored 11 points off of the bench to help the Bulls with their easy victory. The Bulls once again put forth a stellar defensive effort holding the Nets to 40.5% but the Bulls helped themselves on the offensive side as well as they shot a spectacular 55.6% from the floor, 60% (9-15) from behind the arc compared to the Nets 17.6% (3-17). This Bulls team continued their strong play on the defensive side of the ball and continue to impress as one of the top-tier teams of the league.
Even though the Bulls were able to come away with a big victory tonight they need Derrick Rose in order to be one of the best teams in the league. Rose has superior leadership skills and is able to take over at any moment of the game and help lead his team to victory. There are very few players with his skill and ability to play the point guard position or who play in the NBA at any position, both offensively and defensively. Rose was the Most valuable Player for a reason last year and if he continues to be nagged by small injuries and misses time throughout this year that will eventually hurt Chicago, as a team, and force them to lose chemistry come playoff time if he was forced to miss time here and there. Rose is the best player on the team and is the big reason why they are as good as they are and they need him to be healthy this year in order to make a deep playoff run.
