MIAMI CONTINUES TO IMPROVE

The Miami Heat are a team that sometimes struggles against lesser opponents, but this is something that happens to every great team. On Sunday’s against Toronto, they looked dominating for stretches, then at other times let the Raptors go on a run that would let them stay in the game. The final score of 95-89 certainly didn’t indicate a blowout of any kind, but there was a lot to be encouraged about if you are Miami.
For the second straight game the Heat got significant minutes from the unit of James(PG), Wade(SG), Bosh(C), Haslem(F), and Miller(F). This is a line-up that can pose all kinds of problems for other teams. LeBron is one of the best passer’s in the NBA, and when you pair him with DWade in the backcourt it causes all kinds of size mismatches for opponents. Not since Magic Johnson has there been a player lining up at point guard that is close to LeBron’s size. In addition, while Haslem is a good spot-up shooter, Mike Miller has been deadly from 3-pt range this year, shooting almost 55% from deep. What this means is that teams have to pay attention to more than just Wade and James. Meanwhile, Chris Bosh has proved to be more than just a luxury item. If one of the big guys is out, he is likely to score 30 and he is having a great year from both the field(52%), as well as the free-throw line(81%).
The bottom line is that nobody should get overly concerned about a loss to Milwaukee(well, 2 losses), and at the same time, don’t get too excited about blowing out the Lakers or anybody else. This Heat team looks much better than last year’s squad, and that is not good news for anyone outside of South Florida.
