Making his mark…Paul Pierce flies by Larry Bird on Celtics all-time scoring list

For the better part of his career Paul Pierce has been under appreciated.
Questions consistently come up in the discussion of Pierce’s greatness. How does he get to the rim the way he does? Is he really that great a shooter, passer, or rebounder?
Career averages of 22 points, 6 rebounds, and 3.8 assists should speak for themselves and would for almost any other player.
Despite the seemingly silly questions, Pierce has remained professional and confident in his ability. It is with that same ability that Pierce passed Celtics legend, Larry Bird, for 2nd on the all time Celtics scoring list on Tuesday night. Pierce finished the game with 15 points, 9 assists, and 8 rebounds in an easy 94-84 win for Boston over Charlotte. A true testament to the versatile all around player he has been throughout his career.
Pierce struggled with his shooting (6-18 on the night) but as great players tend to do he found other ways to contribute when his shot was not falling. Nevertheless at the 10:23 mark of the 3rd quarter Pierce nailed a three from Rajon Rondo that gave him 21,792 points for his career.
After the game Pierce said the crowd made him a little nervous as they were gasping on every attempt but he was relieved once the moment had passed. Once history was made all of the Celtics seemed to relax and they were able to focus on the bigger picture of defeating the Bobcats.
Pierce has a ways to go before he could become number one on the Celtics all-time list. John Havlicek (26,395 points) is the franchise leader in points scored. For now Pierce will focus his talents on leading this group of Celtics on a “final” playoff run and settle for one upping Bird as his jersey number would suggest.
