NBA-All Star Rising Stars Rosters

The NBA attempts to add drama to All-Star weekend with a twist on the former rookie vs. sophomore game. The event is now the BBVA Rising Stars Challenge [1] featuring the best rookies and sophomores mixed together on two teams.

The Team Shaq vs. Team Chuck (Charles Barkley) [2]

The two NBA legends are the special coaches for the event and held their draft (Thursday night) from the 20 player pool. New York Knicks phenom, Jeremy Lin  and Miami Heat guard, Norris Cole were both late additions to the pool. The league could not pass on capitalizing on the meteoric rise of Lin and he had to be included in this event. Rightfully so.

Shaq won a coin toss and made the first selection of the draft with Blake “Earthquake” Griffin. A nickname Shaq has repeatedly tried to stick to Griffin.  Barkley selected Kyrie Irving with his first selection. The final rosters are listed below:

Team Shaq

Team Chuck

Blake Griffin – Los Angeles Clippers (Sophomore)

Kyrie Irving – Cleveland Cavaliers (Rookie)

Jeremy Lin – New York Knicks (Sophomore)

DeMarcus Cousins – Sacramento Kings (Sophomore)

Ricky Rubio – Minnesota Timberwolves (Rookie)

Paul George – Indiana Pacers (Sophomore)

Greg Monroe – Detroit Pistons (Sophomore)

Derrick Williams – Minnesota Timberwolves (Rookie)

Markieff Morris – Phoenix Suns (Rookie)

MarShon Brooks – New Jersey Nets (Rookie)

Kemba Walker – Charlotte Bobcats (Rookie)

John Wall – Washington Wizards (Sophomore)

Landry Fields – New York Knicks (Sophomore)

Gordon Hayward – Utah Jazz (Sophomore)

Norris Cole – Miami Heat (Rookie)

Tiago Splitter – San Antonio Spurs (Sophomore)

Brandon Knight – Detroit Pistons (Rookie)

Kawhi Leonard – San Antonio Spurs (Rookie)

Tristan Thompson – Cleveland Cavaliers (Rookie)

Evan Turner – Philadelphia 76ers (Sophomore)

Both teams are balanced with talent at every position with Shaq’s team holding an edge in guard play. Team Chuck has the better overall crop of forwards and a backcourt of Irving and Wall is nothing to sneeze at. The event will no doubt be one of the better ones over the weekend especially with the underwhelming announcement of the dunk contest participants.

So who are you with?

Team Shaq or Team Chuck? [2]
