Welcome back to the stage Derrick Rose! The reigning MVP returned to the court after a five game absence due to a back injury and he did not disappoint. Rose racked up 35 minutes of action and put up 23 points with 6 assists and 5 rebounds to produce a very solid performance after not playing in some time. Aside from Rose returning this was an all around good game for the Bulls starting 5 with four of them producing double digit efforts excluding JoaKim Noah who provided the spark with his 16 rebounds and defensive presence. The Bulls defense was solid all around and their offense was solid but they will need to have more contribution from their bench from the scoring category as they struggled for the most part tonight. John Lucas did provide 10 points off of the bench, Mike James dished in 7, and Taj Gibson had 6 but other than that their bench had no points and the points they did have were very minimal.
The Bulls bounced back after their loss against the New Jersey Nets on Saturday and improved to 26-8 on the year with the victory. The return of Derrick Rose was very important to this team and as long as he can stay healthy he will continue his solid production and be the best point guard in the NBA and a player as important to his team as anyone in the league. Defense and solid “game-management” offense has been the way the Bulls have pulled out victories, for the most part, this year and it will continue to have to be that way because they are not the most potent offense but their defense is good enough to slow down the better offenses enough to keep them in games long enough to take advantage of late turnovers and pressure teams into mistakes to help lead to points.
