THE CIRCUS STARRING WADE AND LEBRON, TAKES DOWN THE MAGIC

Posted By Sean Eckhardt On Feb 20 2012 @ 9:43 am In Miami Heat | No Comments

Last year the Miami Heat was a circus atmosphere.  The addition of LeBron James and Chris Bosh, accompanied by a rock concert introduction, created both hype and criticism.  This year however, the circus part of the equation actually describes the high-flying play and awe-inspiring shots that the dynamic duo has been providing.  Since DWade has been healthy, he and LeBron have been wowing crowds around the country.  On Sunday, the Orlando Magic couldn’t compete with the circus and were beat down, 90-78.

The Heat are now becoming what Pat Riley was counting on, and the rest of the NBA feared; elite.  The chemistry between James and Wade is excellent, but the rest of the team is contributing in a big way as well.  When Dwyane was out with injury, guys like Mike Miller and Chris Bosh picked up the slack offensively.  The point guard rotation of Mario Chalmers and Norris Cole has been so good, that for the first time in years there isn’t any talk in Miami about trying to acquire a veteran PG.  Add in Udonis Haslem and Shane Battier, and the Heat have become one of the deepest teams in the NBA.

On Sunday, it was all about Flash and Bron.  The speed of the “Wade of old” was on full display as LeBron found him on some spectacular lob-dunks.  Dwyane had 19 first half points, on 9-13 shooting, and finished with 27 points.  James continues to be the most efficient player the game has ever seen, as he dropped 25 points on 9-14 shooting, and grabbed 11 rebounds to go with it.  Even in places like Cleveland, when these two guys are on display in full force, the crowd can’t help but let out some very loud oohs, aaahhs, and even cheers.

Defensively, when they are focused, Miami is one of the best in the NBA.  Against the Magic a coupe of weeks ago, they were torched by Orlando’s 3pt shooting and dominated by Dwight Howard.  On Sunday, the Heat held Orlando to 38% from behind the arc, and 37% overall.  Miami also kept Howard in check, limiting him to only 12 points.  This was an impressive win.  Next for the Heat, they get the proverbial “trap” game.  They host an inferior Sacramento Kings team on Tuesday night, a game they should win by 40.  But this is the NBA and surprises are always right around the corner.
