Lakeshow Get Big Win on The Road Against Defending Champs

The Los Angeles Lakers got a “just what the doctor ordered” type of victory last night against the Dallas Mavericks 96-91, on the road of all places.
Yesterday’s game wasn’t just about the Lakers getting a big road win, it was a display of the united front of the 14 players on the Lakers roster. This game not only showed that this squad could actually be possible contenders if they continue to move in the right direction, it also raised a more important question.
Why are they trading Pau Gasol again?
Fresh off of a “players only team meeting” and public show of support by Kobe Bryant over the last few days, Gasol played with a little extra motivation in “Big D” last night. Who knows, maybe he listened to some Kelly Rowland before he took the floor. All I know is that the Gasol I saw last night shouldn’t be nowhere near any trade rumors. The problem is we just haven’t seen that Gasol on a nightly basis for almost a year, dating back to last season.
Gasol scored 24 points and had 9 rebounds. His evening consisted of a 12-point first quarter in which his jump shot was wet and post game looked fluid. His second half was filled with timely tip ins and converted assists from Bryant. His “twin tower heist” buddy, Andrew Bynum, had a big game as well, scoring 19 points and grabbing 14 boards.
Again I ask, when you can get this type of production from your two big men on a nightly basis, why are you talking about trading them again?
Derek Fisher had a flashback moment of past years, and dropped a much needed 15 points, hitting timely buckets in his typical “Player President” I got this manner. The Black Mamba, was unusually UN-Mamba like tonight, scoring only 15 points as well, but he still had Mamba-like moments. One came at the end of the third quarter, where he hit a contorted, sideways, Sportscenter “Top 10″ circus-type shot while being fouled. The other moments came late in the fourth period, where he found Gasol and Bynum for back to back buckets, the latter resulted in a Dallas timeout and a body to body high-five in the air between The Mamba and AB.
The only thing missing from last night’s game was a Lamar Odom siting for the Mavericks, who was not present because he was tending to a personal family matter. I’m glad he wasn’t there, because I can’t stand to see a despondent L. O. I know we’re halfway through the season, but I’m still not over the fact that Odom is not in the “purple and gold” anymore. Really Jim Buss, really….SMH!
The Lakeshow head to Oklahoma City to take on a run and gun Thunder team that has the best record in the Western Conference. Did I forget to mention that this will be the second night of a back to back for this veteran Lakers squad. The Mamba and Co. would love nothing more than to end their two-game roadie with a road sweep of two elite teams heading into the All-Star break.
These are the kind of wins that can give a team new life for the second half of a season. Who knows, it could be just what the doctor ordered for this current version of the Lakeshow.
