As I watched the Nets get pummeled by the Orlando Magic last night. I began to notice that a lot of Nets fans we’rent concerned with the game happening before them, they we’re thinking of next season. Many signs showed their affection for the All-Star center, who was destroying their team on the court…Dwight Howard!
“Superman” was caught right smack in the middle of another game. The “Recruiting” game! It’s no secret that DH wants to play in Brooklyn next October and the Nets want Howard and Williams to be the cornerstones of their franchise as it moves across the Hudson River.
The Nets slyly tried to impress the big fella with visions of a spanking new stadium, All-Star point guard and tons of admiring fans who lust to have number 12 in a Nets uniform dominating the NBA.
Instead of the NBA, doing it to the Nets. I must admit it would be great to have these incredible two athletes to build around a young core of players like Brooks and Humphries. The Nets would almost instantly be able to compete with the beasts of the East. Now, after going through the LBJ saga and watching him decide to take his talents to South Beach.
I can’t help but think that the Nets have almost no chance to acquire Howard if it means competing with Dallas or the Lakers to do it. So, I believe the main FACTOR to the getting DH from the Magic Kingdom to the county of Kings is too lock up Deron Williams for the next 5 or 6 years. It’s simple…Keep Williams, you can get Howard. If the Nets don’t re-sign D-Will, then it’s no DH, no stars to bring to Brooklyn which will equal a bad team with a brand new building.
That’s a very scary thought for Nets fans. So, through all of the respect and admiration for Howard. There’s a big hint of desperation in all of the cheers, signs and smiles. The Nets management knows that their real season begins this summer. When the future of the franchise will rest on Williams and Howard’s decisions.
