Shining Star…Kyrie Irving dominates the BBVA Rising Stars Game

Kyrie Irving has solidified that he is going to be a future all-star in the NBA.

Irving led Team Chuck to an easy 146-133 victory over Team Shaq scoring 34 points and dishing out 9 assists in the BBVA Rising Stars game.

Never mind the fact that its an all-star game with very little defense, Irving was unstoppable.

Irving lamented after the game “You know it’s kind of unfortunate that it comes in the All-Star Game. These stat’s don’t carry over to the season. But at the end of the day, it was still fun to get out there with those talented guys, so it was a great experience.

There is some irony in the outcome as many predicted that Team Shaq had the overwhelming advantage in talent. While that was debatable, Shaq’s top two picks (Blake Griffin and Jeremy Lin) saw limited action combining for just 12 points in 21 minutes.

Both players have had a rigorous and draining weekend with multiple commitments extending them slightly more than other players thus far. Lin even had his own 30 minute presser before the game as the NBA decided he should be separated from the other rising stars who participated in a day time press event.

No excuses and the night unequivocally belonged to Irving and the players of Team Chuck.

Evan Turner played a fantastic game with 16 points, 11 rebounds, and 7 assists. DeMarcus Cousins double doubled with 18 points and 11 rebounds while Paul George scored 23.

Team Shaq was led by rookie Tristan Thompson’s 20 points and Greg Monroe who had 19 points and 10 rebounds. Monroe continues to blossom while going largely unnoticed by the media.

The teams combined for 23 threes and what seemed like 50 dunks in a game that thrilled the capacity crowd.

Monroe said earlier in the day that he wasn’t necessarily a fan of the change in format but judging by the crowd response this is a change that will stick for All-Star games to come.
