Masked Mamba Back At Work

Fresh off of becoming the All-Star’s Game all-time leading scorer, and oh yeah, suffering a broken nose and concussion via Dwayne Wade, Kobe Bryant masked and all, leads the Los Angeles Lakers to a 104-85 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves. It was their 17th consecutive win over the Timberwolves, a streak that dates back to 2007.

The reinvented Masked Mamba dropped 31 points, grabbed 7 rebounds, and totaled 8 assists on a Minnesota squad who was without their injured All-Star, Kevin Love. Pau Gasol chipped in with 15 points, while Andrew Bynum posted his usual, a double-double of 13 points and 13 rebounds.

When asked about Bryant’s ability to overcome almost all injuries, Coach Brown seemed convinced that Bryant is not human in a sense.

“Kobe is a special human being,” Brown said. “I don’t have answers for him. I don’t know what he’s made of. He’s just different. His body reacts different.”

Bryant’s ability to dodge all possible obstacles and road blocks ahead, literally display how bad he wants to win. Obviously, that’s nothing new to Laker Nation, but playing at this kind of level through all of his injuries is unprecedented. If I have gaged Bryant’s mentality accurately, I’m pretty sure he believes he has five great years left in the tank, and with that being said, no years wasted is clearly the motto.

The Lakeshow finish the week at home with a Friday contest against the Sacramento Kings, and a Sunday matchup against the Miami Heat. Bryant has dispelled the notion of harboring any tough feelings towards Wade, but don’t be surprised if you see a more motivated (if that’s even possible) Kobe going against Wade, Lebron James and the Miami Heat, a team who most experts believe are head and shoulders above every other team in the NBA.

Sunday’s game will definitely have a playoff-like atmosphere, and if Laker’s general manager, Mitch Kupchak, is able to round up some reinforcement, this could possibly be a Finals preview. Hey, stranger things have happened. Bottom line, The Masked Mamba won’t be slowing down anytime soon, and he’s coming to a city near you.
