Knicks fall to Bucks, prove Tyson Chandler’s value

Tonight was supposed to be the easy game of the road trip, it was supposed to be the game that the Knicks halted their losing streak before heading home.
Not so fast.
Despite shooting over 55% from the field, New York lost their fourth straight game and, for the second game in a row, severely missed Tyson Chandler; the Knicks allowed the Bucks to not only outrebound them, but to grab 17 offensive boards.
For New York, the improvement in their defense has been one of the more impressive and unrecognized things about their season, and the change in style can be accredited to none other than Tyson Chandler.
This is really no secret, just look at the stats; in the past two months, the most points the Knicks have allowed in regulation was just 105 in a game against Chicago. The past two games without Tyson? San Antonio breezed by New York with 118 points and the Bucks scored 119 tonight.
There are many valuable pieces in place for the Knicks right now—Jeremy Lin is the much needed answer at point guard, Carmelo Anthony is the closer, Amar’e Stoudemire is the superstar that rounds out the Knicks very own “Big Three”. However, Tyson Chandler, with his defensive toughness and domination on the glass, needs to be added to the list, as the Knicks have proven to be a far inferior team without him.
Other than missing Tyson Chandler on the defensive side of the ball, not everything went bad for the Knicks—their offensive game was nothing short of fantastic; Jeremy Lin dished out 13 assists, while Carmelo scored 22, Amar’e had 27, and Landry Fields put in 18.
As mentioned earlier, the Knicks as a whole shot over 55% from the field, and the offense flowed very nicely. 114 points will win you 95 out of 100 games in this league, but tonight the Knick’s defense was as bad as its offense was good.
New York will be back in action Sunday afternoon when they take on Philadelphia at Madison Square Garden, as they look to improve to 2-0 against the division leaders this season.
