Here’s this week’s What It Means:
1) Congrats to Justin Rose for winning the WGC-Cadillac Championship at Doral. Stellar play this week and survived a tough Sunday when a lot of guys went backwards. As NBC’s Jimmy Roberts pointed out, Rose has now won Jack’s event, Tiger’s event, a WGC and a FedEx Cup playoff event. Good stuff. I would not be surprised to see him contend at a major this year.
2) Tiger Woods withdrawing due to a left Achilles injury is extremely troubling, especially considering that we’re in the run-up to Augusta. The Achilles issue is what knocked Tiger out for so long last year and it took him a while to get back to himself (aka like, a week ago.)
We can only hope this is just a minor issue and he’s back out there for the Tavistock Cup and Bay Hill in two weeks. If not. Uh oh.
3) Bubba Watson is an interesting player. He moves the ball 40 different directions, tells it like it is, can shoot really low scores but also can blow up in a heartbeat. Man, I hope he ends up in contention at another major because he’s a thrill to watch.
