Here it is, Nets fans! Months of rumors and speculations have finally made way to this…the final hours before the trade deadline.
The Nets have been smack in the middle of frantic talks involving big time players switching uniforms before this Thursday afternoon. With all of the hoopla surrounding who may or may not be playing in New Jersey for the rest of the season.
I came up with THREE trades that could instantly improve the Nets roster.
1. Nets get Dwight Howard. Orlando gets Monta Ellis, David Lee, Mehmet Okur & 1st round pick. Warriors get Hedo Turkoglu, Kris Humphries & Brook Lopez.
I believe this blockbuster trade would work out well for all three teams involved: Dwight Howard gets his wish and plays along with Deron Williams in New Jersey. The Magic get a dynamic scorer in Ellis. Lee gives Orlando a banger in the paint and the expiring contract of Mehmet Okur gives the Magic cap flexibility. The Warriors get a scoring center in Lopez. Hump replaces Lee at power forward & Turkoglu provides another scorer to the lineup. The Warriors also get expiring contracts with Lopez & Humphries.
2. Nets get Dwight Howard & Chris Duhon. Orlando gets Brook Lopez, Kris Humphries, Mehmet Okur & 1st round pick.
If a straight up trade with the Magic can be done. This is probably the best the deal that the Nets can offer. The Nets get the big fella from Orlando & Duhon to ride the pine as the “throw-in” piece to complete the deal. The Magic will get a young center in return with Lopez and production in the paint from Humphries. A future 1st round pick will give the Magic another young player to add to the mix. Lopez, Hump & Okur are all in the final year of their contracts freeing up over 20 million for Orlando this off-season.
3. Nets get Josh Smith. Atlanta gets Kris Humphries, Johan Petro & Damion James & 1st round pick.
If the Nets can’t make a deal for Howard. Jersey could go after the high flying forward from the Hawks. Smith wants out of the ATL and the Nets may want to get another All-Star type player to convince D-Will to stay in New Jersey. Hump will equal J-Smoove’s production. Petro gives the Hawks another big body in the paint. All three players will be free agents this off-season giving the Hawks cap space.
It will be very interesting to see if the Nets can make a “major” move right now to propel their team into the future or will they have to wait & gamble on what will happen once the season’s over.
