Rose dominant, Knicks lack effort in loss to Bulls

Often times in basketball, and in sports, the team that wants to win more will win.

Tonight, the Chicago Bulls wanted to win more, and had much more of a will to win, than the New York Knicks did. Just taking a glance at the stat sheet tells you all you need to know about tonight’s game.

First of all, and keep this in mind, the Knicks shot the ball better than the Bulls tonight, as far as percentages go. However, Chicago was completely dominant on the boards, outrebounding New York 56 to 38, including 22 offensive rebounds. Yes, 22 offensive rebounds.

Five different Knicks scored in double digits, as Carmelo Anthony and Amar’e Stoudemire led the way with 21 and 20 points, respectively. For the Bulls, Derrick Rose scored a game-high 32 points on 12 of 29 shooting while dishing out seven assists. Other notables for Chicago included Joakim Noah, who scored 12 points while grabbing 10 rebounds, and Taj Gibson, whose eight offensive rebounds were just one less than the total for New York.

The effort just was not there tonight for the Knicks, as they have been severely lacking it for about the past week now. Chicago beat them to every loose ball, completely outhustling and outworking New York.

And, the worst part is, people think that head coach Mike D’antoni is the problem, and that he needs to be fired. Why? I have no idea. D’antoni is doing everything he can, but he can’t control the level of intensity his team brings to the arena.

What the Knicks need is for someone to take charge, preferably Carmelo Anthony, since he thinks this is his team, as it should be, and call a players only meeting so they can figure out how to correct this lack of effort.

The one thing in sports that can always be controlled is the level of effort that is given. The Knicks have all the talent and potential in the world, but right now they are not giving nearly the necessary effort. Lucky for them, they can still figure this out in time and make the playoffs, as they are currently tied for the final spot with Milwaukee.

This is a problem that can be fixed, an issue that can be controlled. The Knicks have the potential to be great, they just have to want to be great, and if they do, they will turn things around.
